THE STORY BEHIND THE NAME
Amarula estates is owned by a local doctor in the area who spent the first twenty years of his life in South Africa. With African Bush in his blood, he named the estate after the beautiful Marula tree on the property. A source of several fascinating legends, the Marula tree has become a sacred and intricate part of ancient African culture. Locals have revered these trees for centuries and refer to them fondly by various names. Because elephants travel for miles to feast on the wild fruit, locals call it ‘The Elephant Tree.’ African folklore also refers to it as ‘The Marriage Tree,’ a reason why we encourage weddings at Amarula Estates. Apart from making a beautifully natural ceremony canopy, it’s also said to have aphrodisiac properties and features in tribal fertility rites. The ripening of the Marula fruit in summer coincides with great celebrations in many parts of Southern Africa. In Swaziland, for example, the annual Marula Festival is celebrated at the king’s royal residence, sustaining the belief that the Marula fruit is fit for kings and queens.
Guests receive a gift of a bottle of Amarula Cream liqueur upon arrival (subject to available stock). Best enjoyed neat or on ice. Ideally with a view.
THE DESIGN OF THE HOME
At a local school fete, the owner of Amarula estates won a lunch with his congressman in Washington DC. While he was in the area, he visited Monticello the home of Thomas Jefferson in Charlottesville, Virginia. Inspired by the Roman neoclassical architecture featuring large columns in the back and front of the house, he returned to Florida and designed and built this home on the banks of the Tomoka River.

Perfect spacious private house
The location is amazing-right off of the highway but on a private secluded property. This is a great estate with all of the comforts of home but an added touch of luxury. The outdoor space is to live for. The infinity pool was amazing. The added bonus of the separate bar/spa was just what was needed for our retreat. Ian ( the owner) was vey accommodating with helping us work all the gadgets. We will definitely be hosting another retreat here.

Amazing Vacation Home
We recently stayed at Amarula Estates over Christmas with 12 family members, this was the best vacation home! It has everything you will need for a great vacation. There was more then enough room for us all and lots of things to do. It was great to have access to the boat, paddle boards and kayaks. All amenities were awesome, pool, hot tub, sauna and Bar area were A++ The property manager was great! Ensured we had everything we needed and was easy to contact him if we did need anything. Close access to restaurants, and shopping and the beach is only about a 7 min drive. We really had a great time here and all the home has to offer as well enjoyed it's location as it is so close to anything you need. Would definitely recommend and we would love to go back again!
