Inside Scoop

Did you Know? The island, some seven miles long, was named Ana-Maria-Cay by the Spanish to honor the Virgin Mary and her mother, Anne, and was explored around 1530 by Spanish adventurers.
In 1892, Bean set up his homestead on the island's northern tip in a scenic beach area known as Bean Point. Bean laid the foundation for the initial settlement of the surrounding area, which would later become the City of Anna Maria.
After Bean passed away in 1898, ownership of his land was transferred to his son, George Wilhelm Bean. He partnered with Charles Roser to further the island's development and see his father’s legacy fulfilled.
