We have been coming to Edgewater since 1989. Met Cheryl 12 years ago, thank God. The Scurlock's are a God sent. Have been renting from them for 12 years, usually for a month, each visit. We wouldn't rent...

Where to stay in Panama City Beach

Panama City Beach stretches along Front Beach Road from the quiet west end to the state park at the east, almost all of it Gulf-front condo towers. Not every listing is on the sand, though. Some sit across Front Beach Road or on the bay side, so check the view before you book.

Know before you book

ECP airport is only 20 minutes away.

American, Delta, Southwest, and United fly into Northwest Florida Beaches International (ECP), with nonstops to hubs like Atlanta and Dallas.

You’ll need a car to explore.

Front Beach Road is the congested tourist strip, and Back Beach Road (US-98) is the faster inland bypass when it jams. The Bayway's Route 7 Beach bus runs the strip for a low flat fare, but a car reaches everything else.

Some towers set a minimum renter age.

Most PCB rentals are in resort towers that add their own rules on top of the owner's. The age minimum varies by building, so a younger group should confirm it before booking. Expect other limits, too, like one parking pass per unit.

Watch the flags before you swim.

The Gulf looks calm, but rip currents are the real hazard here. Look for beach flags. Red means hazardous and double-red closes the water entirely, with a $500 fine if you go in.

Panama City Beach vacation rental FAQs

Straight answers to what people ask us most.

How much does a vacation rental in Panama City Beach cost?

+
The median Panama City Beach rental runs about $156 a night, with a week around $1,057 and a month near $3,930, with condos making up most of the market. Review each listing for the extra costs like cleaning, a resort or parking fee, and taxes.

What's the cheapest month to visit Panama City Beach?

+
At the peak of hurricane season, September sees the lightest crowds in Panama City Beach, so rates tend to be lowest then. The storm risk is the real trade-off. For warm water and thinner crowds outside of hurricane season, aim for late October or May. Winter is cheaper still, if you don't mind Gulf water being too cool to swim.

Is Panama City Beach the same as Panama City?

+
No. Panama City Beach is the Gulf-front resort town on the barrier strip. Panama City is the older mainland city across St. Andrew Bay, about 25 minutes over the Hathaway Bridge, with no Gulf beach of its own. If you want to walk onto sugar-white sand, book in Panama City Beach; if you want the mainland city, see Panama City.

Is Panama City Beach dog friendly?

+
Somewhat. Dogs are banned from the main public beach, so the only beach option is a small, leashed-only stretch known as Dog Beach. Frank Brown Park has fenced off-leash areas inland. A good number of rentals do accept pets, so see the pet-friendly listings, and confirm each owner's pet rules and any deposit before you book.

Is Panama City Beach good for families with young kids?

+
Very. On calm days the Gulf is shallow and gentle, and the state park's jetty-protected lagoon is the calmest water around for small swimmers. Shipwreck Island Waterpark adds a wave pool and slides, with admission priced by height. Always check the beach flags when kids are in the water because a calm-looking Gulf can still have rip currents.
