In late September to mid-October, summer crowds have gone and the water is still warm, though there’s a chance of tropical storms. Mid-April to mid-May is also warm and less crowded than peak summer, which is the most popular time to visit, and prices reflect that. There’s plenty to do within 20 minutes of Santa Rosa Beach, including in neighboring cities like Miramar Beach and Seaside.

The beach-side communities line up west to east along 30A. From the west, that's Dune Allen, Gulf Place, and Blue Mountain Beach, then Grayton Beach, with WaterColor, Seagrove, and Watersound stretching on toward the east end. North of US-98, a quieter bayside stretch sits on Choctawhatchee Bay, a short drive from the nearest Gulf access.
Fly into VPS (Destin–Fort Walton Beach) to the west or ECP (Northwest Florida Beaches) to the east and rent a car to get to Santa Rosa Beach.
Many 30A homes come with one, and it's the local way to get around. A street-legal low-speed vehicle, or LSV, is road-legal on streets posted 35 mph or under, while a plain golf cart isn't, so confirm what yours provides.
Many 30A rentals come with deeded or HOA access, a short boardwalk walk rather than Gulf frontage. The genuinely Gulf-front units are the named condo buildings.
The South Walton Fire District issues beach-bonfire permits, per night or annual, for a fee, and must approve the fire before you build it. Materials can't go down before late afternoon, and you must pack everything out.
