We already mentioned the incredible Clearwater Beach, but let’s talk about it some more. There are clear shallow waters on the titular beach which means it’s a perfect spot for families with young children. From the activity along the palm-lined Beach Walk Promenade to the serene shores of Sand Key Park
, you're sure to find your perfect spot in the sand on Clearwater Beach. Walk toward the more residential north side of the beach for a little serenity away from the bustling scene of Pier 60
and Clearwater Marina.
Speaking of Pier 60, it’s located at the promenade and provides visitors a gathering place for a daily sunset festival with artists, craftsman, music, and more. There’s also a park featuring two unique covered playground areas that include swings, slides, monkey bars, and a replica ship to play on.
The fun doesn’t stop just on this beach though, Caladesi Island, off the north end of the beach, was recognized as the nation's best by Dr. Beach in 2008. Take the ferry we mentioned boave to access the island.
Beach Walk has transformed the look and feel of south Clearwater Beach. It’s a broad, winding promenade surrounded by resorts, beautiful white sand, entertainment and artwork. It offers a unique environment for pedestrians to enjoy a view of the Gulf of Mexico dotted with palm trees, resting areas and lush landscaping bordering the meandering two-lane drive.
If you’re visiting in March don’t miss a Philadelphia Phillies Spring Training game at Brighthouse Field! If you prefer indoor entertainment, Constructed in 1921, the Capitol Theatre is reminiscent of a classic Hollywood theater. One of the oldest operating theaters in Florida, it is known for having some of the best natural acoustics in the southeastern United States.
Lastly, Clearwater Marine Aquarium is a unique attraction where one can view, touch and experience the biology and behavior of bottlenose dolphins, loggerhead sea turtles, Kemp’s Ridley sea turtles, river otters, sting rays, fish, coral reefs, mangroves and more. Visit Winter, the bottlenose dolphin who was rescued in December 2005 after having her tail caught in a crab trap, who swims using her prosthetic tail.
Food & Drink
Clearwater offers up hundreds of choices for food: from ice cream to snacks to fine dining. Bring your appetite! Grab lunch at Cafe Ponte which has a laid-back atmosphere and a gluten free menu that rivals any in Florida. Rumba Island Bar & Grille is well-known for its service and some of the best cocktails in the area. Marina Cantina is foodie-heaven and has stunning water views. You also can’t go wrong with pizza! You’ll want to order your pie from Cristino’s Coal Oven Pizza which is, by far, the best pizza in Clearwater. Do not leave Clearwater without sampling the fresh seafood at Salt Cracker Fish Camp, either!
Your best bet for shopping in Clearwater Beach is at the Shoppes on Sand Key and the SurfStyle store on Beach Walk. And the annual Clearwater Beach Uncorked Food & Wine Festival is one of the year’s most anticipated foodie events on the beach.
