Marco pairs a beach day with the Ten Thousand Islands at its back door, so the best days here mix sand, water, and a boat.
Southwest Florida International (RSW), about 45 minutes to an hour north, has the flights. The Naples and Marco Island airports are closer, but they don’t have commercial service, making RSW the one to book.
Marco has no walkable core, and its beaches, canals, and shops sit far apart. Collier Area Transit runs two limited routes, the R21 circulator and R121 Marco Express, but neither gets most visitors around. Golf carts and bikes cover short hops, and a car does the rest.
It sounds like the public beach, but the Marco Island Civic Association runs it for property owners and yearlong tenants only, so a week's renter can't get in. The county-run beach parks are the public alternative, open to anyone.
From May through October, Marco enforces a lights-out rule, so beachfront windows and porches stay dim or amber after dark. Similar months, June to November, are hurricane season when rates soften and red tide can flare. Book with that in mind.
