In addition to nightly fees, you’ll pay state and county taxes and a cleaning fee set by the owner. Some rentals also require damage deposits and charge for lost items. However, many don’t charge an extra parking fee.
Gulf Shore Drive, US 98, and Scenic Highway 98 carry the beachfront buildings, west to east, and the stay changes as you go. Central Destin is about 35 minutes from Destin–Fort Walton Beach Airport without traffic, and you’ll likely want a car to get around.
Resorts and condos typically control the dry sand areas in front of their buildings. If you’re looking for more space and fewer restrictions, visit a beach park such as Henderson Beach State Park or June White Decker Beach Park.
Beach service commonly runs March through October. A city-permitted vendor sets out chairs and an umbrella under an agreement with the building, and the dry sand usually belongs to the building.
Boat trips start at the harbor, which is about 10 minutes from the central beachfront. Parasail trips run March through November, and Destin features the largest fishing fleet in Florida.
Many rentals have a minimum age of 25, such as Pelican Beach and Silver Dunes. This comes from the rental program rather than the owner, so check the building's policy before you book.
Destin sets no minimum stay or cancellation rule; the minimum and cancellation terms belong to the owner or the building. Make sure to check with them before you book.
Alcohol is banned year-round in city parks, beaches, and Okaloosa County's beaches. Open containers are illegal on any public right-of-way, and no glass is allowed on the beach or access points.
