Bungalows are deep cleaned after every stay and have been impeccably cared for directly by Ali and Rich (owners/landlord) since 2001.
Fern Haven studio bungalow is a Key West-style studio efficiency. It is comfy, cozy, bright, and airy, with French doors onto a deck overlooking gardens and a brick patio dining area. It has a large mirrored doored closet and under-bed drawers for ample storage. The kitchen is fully equipped with all you need to make your favorite recipes. It is in a quiet neighborhood with only a short walk to the famous Siesta Key beach and village. Across the street, we have a dock where you can launch our kayaks and enjoy the waterways or rent a boat and dock it there.
The Fern Haven cottage is co-located on the property with our Canal Place main house and shares an outside laundry area with a washer and dryer.

Why Kids Love It
Its a quiet neighborhood so its safe for walking and bike riding. Its super close to the beach. It has an outdoor shower which is especially nice when bringing the little ones home from the beach. Kids can have their own play room since there are two family rooms.
There is a fabulous playground for kids at the main beach. Its new and sand-themed.
Siesta Key has been voted to have the best beach in the USA which you can walk to in five minutes from our Blue Lagoon bungalow! Fun shopping and restaurants are only a ten minute walk away in Siesta Village. Historic downtown Sarasota is teaming with the arts - opera, ballet, performing arts center, dinner theatre, galleries, Ringling museum, Selby botanical gardens - and a multitude of restaurants is only 15 minutes away. For bikers we have an 11 mile bike trail that is close by. Golf courses abound! Fishing charters, diving, snorkeling, kayaking, paddle boarding, and a lot more water sports are available right on Siesta Beach.
The famous Siesta Beach has been voted to have the whitest sand in the USA! Three times in a row!!! Your beach access has no parking so its just you and the neighbors there. It makes is very easy and relaxing to watch the kids since they aren't getting lost in a sea of people.
We have everything we need right in the village: post office, family drug store, market, liquor store, apparel stores, souvenirs, many kinds of restaurants with outdoor dining, bike/moped/kayak/paddle board rentals, farmers market on Sundays, ice cream parlors, donut stop, coffee shops, skateboard shop, shoe shop, jewelers, and a gym. I think the list goes on!
We have lots of favorites: The Sun Garden patio for breakfast, The Hub for lunch, and Flavio's for dinner. But that's only a few of our favorites. We have a whole list on our website: /favorites-1.html on our favorites page.
~There is a geocache hidden at the gazebo in the heart of the village. ~The fish that jump in the canals are Mullet. ~There are no alligators in the canals. They are only fresh water and ours is salt water. ~There is kayaking in mangrove tunnels on Lido Key (favorite thing to do!) ~The white beach sand never gets hot! It is made of 90% quarts and cannot retain the heat.~ The manatees love to come into the canals when its cold. Often we can see dolphins sanding right on the beach. ~You've got to watch for the "green flash" as the sun hits the horizon. I've only seen it once! ~There are great Happy Hour specials at The Cottage restaurant in the village. ~You can rent a boat and explore the canals and deserted islands in the intercostal and water ski around skiers island ~ There is a yoga class on the beach.
Enjoy kayaks off out dock, bikes to explore the island, and a short walk to quaint Siesta village, and famous Siesta beach.

Staci S.Excellent pet-friendly bungalow
This studio was perfect for our 4 week stay in Siesta Key! The neighborhood is beautiful and quiet-and everyone we met was so friendly-to us and to our dog! Every day we walked into the Village-where there are plenty of shops, restaurants and bars-many with live music every day. While the bungalow is small, it was immaculate when we arrived, and there is more than enough storage-there was no wasted space. There is also a great outdoor space. We could walk to the beach-and chairs were provided. Rich is fantastic-always available to answer any questions-about the bungalow and about Siesta Key in general. He leaves a binder with lots of great information-restaurants (with descriptions and phone numbers), available transportation, and activities in Siesta Key and nearby Sarasota. I highly recommend!

Anne J.Fern Haven met our expectations and then some!
First of all, the bungalow itself- Exactly as picured on the webpages and clean and for such a small space, well equipped except for a two burner cook top and a portable oven stored in a cupboard under the counter which as a cook I found to be a bit of a challenge so we had to eat out more...such a hardship!!! We loved our little sitting area in the secluded garden shared with the main cottage (also owned by Ali and Rich). The garden is well-lit with hanging fairy lights (which we turned off at night), motion lights at the entrance and plenty of solar garden lights. We were pleasantly surprised that it was so quiet. We had avoided renting “in town” in the past but we loved walking to town for an ice cream at Big Olaf’s or to grab something from the grocery (try the locally made orange marmalade) and best perk of all: the beach is 1600 Fitbit steps away! Rich was helpful without being intrusive)a true talent) and we will certainly return.

We enjoyed our FL visits to Hollywood; Winter Haven and Venice seeing family and friends BUT our home base at Fern Haven at Siesta Key was, for us, a vacation. It is a short walk from the bungalow to the Beach or to Siesta Key stores and restaurants. Stay at the bungalow for the evening ? No problem because everything inside was thought of and there is a grill and a deck for enjoying the evening. The proprietor thought of everything ! My wife agrees ! Tim D.

I stayed at the Fern Haven unit during December 2017 and found it was ideal for myself. The unit was very clean; quiet & fully supplied with dishes; silverware; pots/pans, etc.. Just bring your clothes and personal things and enjoy the sun. The owner was excellent in answering any questions promptly.

Yes, the Fern Haven cottage is the back guest cottage of the main house, the Canal Place bungalow. Each cottage has its own private separated outside space. The two cottages share the outside laundry.
It is an extremely safe neighborhood. There is plenty of lighting at night to walk safely down the walkway to the back Fern Haven cottage.
