Local grub and gastropubs
There are many places to enjoy food, drink and the local seafood. Here we will list a few of our favorites, why they are our favorites, and distance/location. Not listed in any order, and we get zero kickback for this list, this is simply our favorites that our family enjoys!
AJ’s Oyster Shanty
AJ’s is located on the Island and you can walk there, however driving is only a minute down the road. AJ’s has a nice vibe, you will find live music regularly, outdoor seating, as well as indoor. Their food is good and lots of options to choose from. Pricing is fair as well. We have been here many, many times!

Fokker’s Pub
Fokker’s Pub is a great little bar atmosphere with good food and service. Lots of TVs for watching sports too. You will have to drive over the bridge, but it’s only 5-10 minutes, depending on traffic. For relaxed cool bar vibe you can’t go wrong.

Beachview Grill
Nice little restaurant with a view! They are directly next door so super easy to walk to if you are looking for breakfast, brunch, or dinner. Prices are beach appropriate and the food and service is good. And you can’t beat the proximity and view.

Ali’s Bistro
For an upscale dining experience that is located nearby and in the cute old downtown area, with really good food and service, try Ali’s Bistro – Italian Kitchen and Wine Bar. You will have to drive over the bridge, but it’s only 5-10 minutes, depending on traffic. This is one of our favorite adult fine dining locations by far.

The Gulf
Our favorite outdoor restaurant. Very unique, located on the intercoastal waters just down the street. Walking again is possible, but driving is probably easier. Go to the end of the Island, continue straight past the light (don’t turn), past the gift shops, turn left (following signs). They have room for kids to play in the lawn & sand, check out the little fish on the water, they have a small dock for boaters to pull up and dock, and everyone can be barefoot if you want! The food is really good as well. Pricing is not too bad for being such a unique place with good food! Siting and enjoying a meal on the waterway, just makes for a great day.

Rockin’ Tacos
Rockin’ Tacos is located just a few minutes down the road and directly on the beach. While you can walk (even on the beach — and we have many times, it’s a wonderful stroll down the beach), driving is quicker and certainly easier with a family. Drive time is only about five minutes. Go to the end of the island, turn right, and it’s on your right a minute up the road. Rockin’ Tacos is a bit bigger restaurant feel, but it’s cool being directly on the beach! Food is good and pricing is beach appropriate.

Al’s Beach Club
Al’s Beach Club is an outdoor burger bar outdoor beachfront restaurant. Al’s is seasonal due to being completely open air (they do have a roof and sun shade sails however). They are next to Rockin’ Tacos, located just five minutes down the road and directly on the beach. While you can walk, driving is quicker and certainly easier with a family. Drive time is only five minutes. Go to the end of the island, turn right, and it’s on your right a minute up the road. They are a unique outdoor experience complete with a splash pad for the kids, and it’s cool being directly on the beach! Food is good and pricing is fair.

Locals love the quiet end of Okaloosa Island for its slower pace and uncrowded beaches—especially early mornings for shell hunting and dolphin sightings just offshore. Just across Miracle Strip Parkway is Ross Marler Park, a favorite with families for its large playground, open green space, and easy access to the Intracoastal Waterway, where you can spot birds, dolphins, and even manatees. Right next door is The Gulf, a laid-back waterfront spot locals love—barefoot-friendly, kid-approved, and perfect for a relaxed meal by the water.
