Peacock Place

Peacock Place, our 'big house' on Anna Maria Island is a sprawling old-Florida style home with 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and plenty of space. It is ideal for a large family or several couples. It is very close to the beach, with only one other house between it and our beautiful, un-crowded beach on the Gulf of Mexico, possibly one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

The house is ideal for a large family or several couples. It has been added onto here and there over the years, creating a pleasant haphazard of living spaces. The kitchen is bright and airy with ample room to cook for a crowd and just about every tool or appliance you could want is probably available. For outdoor cooking, there is a gas grill and a small charcoal grill. The main living room is quite large with lots of comfy sofas and recliners. Many games, toys and puzzles are tucked into nooks, crannies and shelves all over. There are three dining tables in this room, and lots & lots of chairs! There is a new smart HDTV that can accept streaming devices, digital cable and a DVD player. Wireless internet system was recently upgraded to fastest speed available.

On the east side of the house, there is a large screened porch. It is the ideal spot for sunrise and coffee, and great for napping or sleeping when it is not too hot. In the old breezeway, there is a fun retro-style cocktail bar.

The master suite is surprisingly elegant. It is also quite large, with a new king-sized bed, multiple dressers and a small workspace. There is also a cozy sitting area with a corner fireplace. The master bath is spacious and cheery, with an exterior door that takes you straight to the beach, and a nearby outdoor shower.

The front bedroom has two twin beds, and the porch bedroom has a full-size bed. The small childrens bedroom has two bunk beds; it sleeps four children. As well, there is one queen-sized sleeper sofa. There is also a second full bath with a large walk-in shower. The entire house has central air conditioning. Peacock Place can accommodate 8 adults.

There is only one other house between this one and the beach. Beach access is a public walkway at the end of the street, a 2-minute walk. We have lots of beach toys, chairs, umbrellas & a pop-up tailgate tent, and a cart to tote things to the beach. We also have baby & infant gear for use if needed, including Pack & Play, Space-Saver High Chair, Swing & Sway, Bounce Baby and other items. This house is entirely ground-level; there are no stairs. There is no swimming pool, but many swim in the Gulf year-round!

Please note: You are vacationing in a residential area. Please be a good neighbor by keeping the noise to a respectful level during the day and night. Excessive and unreasonable noise can deprive the neighbors of the peaceful enjoyment of their property. Thank you. In addition, Peacock Place has a maximum of four vehicles allowed and all vehicles must be parked in driveways. No street or right-of-way parking is allowed without proper permit.

Area Information

Peacock Place is in a quiet neighborhood with little traffic and mostly full-time residents. It is easily walkable to shopping, restaurants, bike & boat rental, library, post office, groceries, liquor store & specialty wine store, as well as the only bank branch left on the island. There is also a free trolley that runs the length of Anna Maria Island, as well as Longboat Key to the south, and a trolley stop very close to the house. Many of our regulars arrive by shuttle or ride-share, and just use bikes, golf cart, trolley or bus to get around. You can easily enjoy the island without a rental car if you choose!

Our home is in the historic Gutiérrez subdivision; it was purchased by our family in the early 1960’s. Gavino Gutiérrez was one of the original founders of Ybor City in Tampa. He was the engineer who laid out the streets of Ybor city in the 1880’s. He also built one of the original homes on Anna María island called “The Shack”, which was located where the main public beach is today. The wood used to build the shack was rescued when the old court house in Tampa was torn down and rebuilt. Gavino Gutiérrez brought the wood to AMI by sailboat. Many of our lovely neighbors are members of the Gutiérrez family! (Thank you all for letting us borrow your prose!)
