Why Kids Love It
Great fun discovering and collecting shells, sharks teeth, beach-combing, fishing off the dock or right in the Gulf, building the best sandcastles ever, swimming in the turquoise water PLUS they can have a sense of independence as Little Gasparilla Island is FUN and VERY SAFE!
Little Gasparilla Island (LGI) is a barrier Island off the SW coast of Florida. It is a best kept secret! It is pure bliss!
Since there are no stores or businesses you need to bring your groceries and goodies with you. There are no cars or stores on the Island so preparing for your visit and meals is a must.
The mainland is only a 10-15 minute boat ride back and you can easily come and go as you like or need to.
Most all our guests tell us that they don't want to leave once they arrive, but on occasion they make a run to the grocery store or want to explore the local area. We suggest visiting Boca Grande. (Take a quick right turn out of Eldred's Marina and pop over to the lovely Island which is less than 1 mile)!
Boca Grande has lovely shops, restaurants, a lighthouse, library and much more.
If you don't want to leave, bring a few extra goodies with you so you can enjoy the week(s) you are visiting without leaving.
As of summer 2019 there is a new on Island grocery service for a reasonable fee and they will get your order and bring it right to you!
Attractions Within Walking Distance
*Explore Don Pedro State Park on the north end of the Island. About a one mile walk.(Restrooms on site)
Pack a lunch and eat under the shady lean-to's and walk the trails.
A Park Ranger is on staff and they are great source of information about the sea life and animal life on the Island.
This park can only be reached by boat so is never crowded, usually just a few kayakers and trail walkers enjoying the day.
* We have a small gift shop called: Gone Fishin'with some nice Islandy items and art work. Just a 5 minute walk from the cottage.
*We have a free library where you can find a book or drop off a book.
Favorite Places To Eat
If heading off the Island for the day, we recommend The Pink Elephant on Boca Grande for a lovely lunch. (I spend my birthday there every February)
Publix Grocery is in nearby Cape Haze. For larger stores, you can go to Englewood (which has the BEST Farmers Market every Thursday (October - May) on historic Dearborn Street or Port Charlotte (about 20 minutes south of the Marina)
The BEST shelling and shark collecting anywhere! The secret is that LGI gets the best shells before any of the other Islands! Find your sea treasures right here!

Our Own Private Little Slice Of Heaven!
My family and I arrived at Peacock Lane cottage after finding this adorable little spot the VRBO. I’ll admit, I was a bit concerned that we would be on an island with no stores, no car and no way off except by boat.... let me tell you that once we arrived all my worries were gone. We were met by a wonderful greeter at the dock that helped us load our things onto the golf cart and took us over the Peacock Lane Cottage (only about a 1-minute ride.) As you come into view of the cottage and the turquoise blue waters of the gulf, you know that you’re in paradise! I was so impressed with the cleanliness of the cottage and all the amenities...it was truly a “home away from home.” We spent the week relaxing on the beach (just steps from the cottage,) collecting seashells on miles of beautiful beach, taking walks, watching dolphins play and of course watching the most amazing sunset/ every evening. We absolutely loved the two decks that the cottage offered (one was covered and had a porch swing and the other was open with lounge chairs and an outside table that was perfect for family meals.) While there are homes on both sides of the cottage we had complete privacy, which was much more appealing than some of the other places I’ve rented from before. I can’t say enough wonderful things about this spot, it really is something out of a dream and I cannot wait to return next year. Working with the owner Laura was an excellent experience! She was very helpful to us during all communication (we spoke via email and by phone) and was always quick to return my questions. We explained our concerns about “island living” but Laura gave us all the information we needed to know about the water taxi, bringing groceries for the week, things available to do at the cottage as well as extra activities provided by other companies local to the island. If you’re looking for a getaway I would highly recommend Peacock Lane Cottage!
