They are only fresh water and ours is salt water. ~There is kayaking in mangrove tunnels on Lido Key (favorite thing to do!) ~The white beach sand never gets hot! It is made of 90% quarts and cannot retain the heat.~ The manatees love to come into the canals when its cold. Often we can see dolphins sanding right on the beach. ~You've got to watch for the "green flash" as the sun hits the horizon. I've only seen it once! ~There are great Happy Hour specials at The Cottage restaurant in the village. ~You can rent a boat and explore the canals and deserted islands in the intercostal and water ski around skiers island ~ There is a yoga class on the beach.

About the host: We are Ali, Rich and Chloe Light. We moved to Siesta Key in 1997 and have never looked back. We absolutely love living here and sharing our paradise with our guests. We have been renting our six cosy bungalows since 1998. Ali is an artist and has drawn inspiration for colors and design of our bungalows from our travels to Hawaii, Ireland, and the British Virgin Islands. Rich was a custom design home builder and landlord for many years in the Philadelphia region, so together we have found the perfect match for having beach rentals.
Why this property? When we moved to Siesta Key in 1997 we knew that we wanted to be able to share this gorgeous area with others and having rentals seemed to be the perfect way. We started buying and restoring our Bungalows in 2002.

A Great Home Away from Home
I loved my two months at Blue Lagoon. It has a great location, near the beach and the village. Palm Island is a great neighborhood, a secluded enclave within Siesta Key. I got to know a lot of my neighbors when I walked my dog and I felt part of the community, a nice feeling for a snowbird who only spends a few months in Florida a year. The cottage is "old Florida" and has way more character and style than all the cookie cutter new developments. I have visited a few of the Lights' other rentals and they were all equally charming. Perhaps the best part of renting the bungalow was getting to know the Lights. Ali is a talented artist and "tech savvy" who was helpful setting up the smart TV and Rich has a great deal of knowledge about local restaurants and places to visit in the area and all around Florida. Very good landlords and good people. I plan to return again next winter.

Fern and Jim, It was lovely to have you as our guest. Thank you for taking such good care of our Blue Lagoon. We hope to see you back next year! Ali and Rich
Wonderful pet friendly vacation spot.
The Lights have several houses near Siesta Key village and right near the outstanding Siesta Key Beach. This is the 5th year and 2nd house we have stayed in and both houses were clean, well furnished and well supplied when we arrived. Alli and Rich are terrific landlords and keep their houses and properties in top shape. This is a very quiet location and very easy access to everything by foot, bike or car, and 10 - 15 minutes from downtown Sarasota. I recommend the Light's houses without hesitation for a wonderful stay in a terrific location. We will return for a 6th visit!

A wonderful stay
I cannot express enough wonderful words to describe our enjoyment of this beautiful bungalow. We sold our home of thirty years and moved down here to Florida. We rented the Blue Lagoon for several months while we looked for a new home. Richard pays attention to even the smallest details. The home was stocked with everything that we needed to make it our temporary home. Our animals were welcome which really meant a great deal to us. This is such a cute, comfortable home. We were very happy with our choice. Richard is also available whenever you need him. And he is brimming with suggestions and local knowledge. The walk to the beach was short and there were chairs, towels and anything else we needed. The beach is absolutely stunning and the sand stays cool unlike any beach I’ve been to. There are also several bicycles to use. The outside shower was great to have after the beach. The neighborhood is quaint and very friendly. Downtown is fun and there is the Frogger, which gives free transport to islanders. This is just wonderful. We really enjoyed the island. It is very peaceful and beautiful. We were very happy with our stay at the Blue Lagoon. We really enjoyed the house, the beach and the neighborhood. We would definitely recommend renting from Richard.

Perfect Pet-Friendly Winter Haven
We greatly enjoyed our 2 months in the Blue Lagoon cottage. Anyone considering Siesta Key will enjoy staying in any of the cottages offered by Rich and Ali Light. They are well-maintained. Rich and Ali go out of their way to be sure their guests enjoy their stay. Detailed information was provided in the Blue Lagoon about dining and other activities. Rich and Ali will be sure you have information not only about Siesta Key but also about the activities that are available in Sarasota. Not only were we made to feel welcome, so was our Yorkie. The streets around the cottage provided a safe environment for our dog. Many thanks to Rich and Ali for making us feel so welcome. Tom and Judy

Serene and Sweet Island Cottage
We loved our stay at Blue Lagoon Bungalow. Well cared for and super clean. One of Florida's old time beach bungalows. Fun colors, beautiful artwork, lovely and well maintained landscaping. Just bring your suits. Cottage has everything you need from beach towels to bicycles. I loved that it had it own washer and dryer. Just charming.
