A Local’s Guide to Enjoying Bonita Beach
You’ve arrived at one of Southwest Florida’s best-kept secrets. Little Hickory Island is loved by locals for its quiet beaches, natural beauty, and relaxed pace. Here are a few insider tips to help you enjoy it like someone who lives here.
Best Times at the Beach
Early mornings and the hour before sunset are the most peaceful and beautiful.
Dolphins are often spotted close to shore during these times.
Sunsets here are wide-open and uncrowded—bring a chair and take your time.
Shelling Tips
The best shelling is right after sunrise, especially following calm weather.
Walk slowly near the waterline and tidal areas—locals know patience pays off.
Wildlife Watching
Dolphins are frequent visitors year-round.
Manatees are most often seen in warmer months, usually early morning or dusk.
Pelicans, osprey, and shorebirds are part of everyday island life—keep an eye on the sky and shoreline.
A Peaceful Island Vibe
Little Hickory Island has no high-rise resorts or nightlife, which keeps it quiet even during peak season.
It’s perfect for guests looking to unwind, unplug, and enjoy nature.
Nearby Nature Bonus

Local Weather Wisdom
Gulf conditions change quickly. If the water looks rough one day, it’s often calm again by the next morning.
Even breezy days are great for beach walks and sunset views.

We just spent a month in Renee & Roberts beautiful condo & loved everything about it. It was comfortable clean & fit all our needs. Short walk to Bonita Beach, beautiful pool & we loved sitting on the lanai watching the boats & dolphins. Very attentive to our needs & so kind & accommodating when we had a medical issue. We hope to return next year & we highly recommend! Best Host! Gene & Betty
