Area Information

A little-known treasure, South Merritt Island is a narrow island between the Banana and Indian Rivers. This location, south of Pineda Causeway and north of Mathers Bridge, is among the most sought-after neighborhoods in Brevard County. A wildlife sanctuary, it's home to Peacocks, Blue Herons, Egrets, Ibis, Osprey, Woodpeckers, Blue Jays, Bald Eagles, various ducks and waterfowl. At its narrowest point, it is less than the width of a football field. It widens out further north, eventually becoming Cape Canaveral.
