Area Information
A little-known treasure, South Merritt Island is a narrow island between the Banana and Indian Rivers. This location, south of Pineda Causeway and north of Mathers Bridge, is among the most sought-after neighborhoods in Brevard County. A wildlife sanctuary, it's home to Peacocks, Blue Herons, Egrets, Ibis, Osprey, Woodpeckers, Blue Jays, Bald Eagles, various ducks and waterfowl. At its narrowest point, it is less than the width of a football field. It widens out further north, eventually becoming Cape Canaveral. South Tropical Trail is a favorite path for bikers and a stroll down the trail at sunset is always a visual feast.
The lush landscape, with old oaks and beautiful homes, feels away from it all, but is just five minutes from shops and services on the mainland and the barrier islands beaches of Satellite Beach, Cocoa Beach, and Cape Canaveral.
Florida’s Space Coast is an ideal setting where you can find uncrowded beaches, great boating, fishing, and water sports, nature trails, shopping, and fine dining. The Melbourne regional airport is 20 minutes away, the Orlando airport is less than an hour away and Orlando theme parks (Disney, Epcot, Universal etc. are about an hour away.

Why this property? Merritt Island is a wonderful microclimate known only to locals, where sprawling old oaks canopy the road and Spanish moss glitters in the sunset. Mango and avocado orchards once dominated the island (and you can still buy them from neighbors in season). Now the island, connected to the beaches and mainland by a drawbridge at one end and a causeway at the other, is the most desired real estate in the county.
