A relaxing beach trip for me and my wife

This beach house was the perfect getaway for my wife and I to celebrate our anniversary. The home has a shared private beach access that was less than a minute walk from the steps of the home. We walked on the beach every evening to take in the gorgeous sunsets. We also enjoyed a lot of delicious food from nearby local restaurants, even bringing some back just so we could have a quiet picnic at dusk. The bed is very comfortable and the home is very clean. The host, Al, deserves 10 stars- He was very personable and helpful and really wanted to make sure we had everything we needed to make the most of our stay. Would highly recommend to everyone!

They Thought of Everything

This condo was perfect for us. Just steps to the beach and very comfortable bedrooms. Al, the owner, provided lots of information about places to eat and things to see in the area. It was not far to drive to great pizza, Italian, Mexican, and Bar B Q. There is a nice convivence store within walking distance.The condo had quality furniture, linens, and cookware. We had everything we needed and it was very clean. There is a great screened porch with a fan and the covered parking was a plus. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

Great Vacation Home!

Another wonderful vacation stay at Home by the Sea. We have been staying here every year since 2020, the year after hurricane Michael. It has been the perfect location and home with the best host you could ask for. The beach is a few steps away with a great views and sunsets from a quiet and peaceful neighborhood. The home is nicely equipped with whatever you need and a unique and comfortable beach decor. Al, your host will check with you right after you arrive and during your your stay to make sure everything is just as it should be and has personal knowledge of the area and is keen to share it with you so you don’t have to guess where the best places to dine and shop are. You’ll soon feel like friends instead of guest and host. If you need or want to know anything he’s a phone call or text away and is always prompt to respond.

Nothing Missing!

This place is so so close to the beach! The house has everything you need - but bring your own beach towels. You can walk to the beach store and convenient store in just a few minutes to grab any essentials. Port St Joe is about 15 minutes from house with tons of restaurants! Will definitely rent again!

Truly Home Away From Home

Wonderful! Just finished our stay. A Fabulous location and a well appointed unit. Great decor, well stocked kitchen, clean and comfortable in all ways. Al is a thoughtful owner and it shows throughout his place. We will certainly return to this beautiful beach community next year. 3rd year and just as wonderful

This was our third time staying at Home By the Sea. the owner, Al Kite, always goes above and beyond with good, clear communication throughout the whole process. The home has everything you need for a comfortable stay and is a PERFECT proximity to the beach and a store or two if you need some extras. The home is always neat and clean and the owner is always seeking update and make things more comfortable. Cape San Blas is a little known treasure among the big tourist beaches an hour or so away. If you’re looking for a place to to just enjoy being a family and enjoy all the wonderful creation around you. Come here.

Home by the Sea has everything you'd want in vacation home

Steps to beach, very clean, well equiped kitchen, comfortable furniture & beds, never ran out of hot water, beach chairs, bikes, beach toys, awesome little nook under home with swing, chairs and charcoal grill where you feel the gulf breeze. Our 2nd time to stay here - will not be our last. Al & Susan are perfect hosts, providing lots of info on area and lots of care put into their home and the guests that stay with them.

Awesome place to stay!

We loved our stay at Home By The Sea. We came with four kiddos so we loved having a super short walk to the beach. We appreciated all the sand toys, beach chairs and the bikes. The kids loved using the nets to catch shells all day. Inside the home, the beds were super comfortable and the house was really clean. It was nice to have a washer and dryer to do any laundry. Al provided lots of info about the local areas and had so many good suggestions. We loved every place we went to. We will be back!

Beautiful Quiet Beach Cottage

I cannot say enough good things about this place!!! It was a short walk to the beach and was easy to walk back and forth with kiddos. The house was well stocked with everything you could need to have an enjoyable week. It was our first time coming to the Cape and Al provided us with tons and tons of recommendations for restaurants and fun things to do and/or see. We look forward to going back to the Cape and staying at Home By The Sea again!

Lovely

This is a great duplex, for the most part the other side was empty or the visitor very quiet. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils and very clean. Liked the location of the washer/dryer next to the kitchen. The dining/living room was cozy. There are two bedrooms upstairs-could use more hangars. There are plenty of stairs but by the time our month long visit was done I felt like I was in better shape-walks on the beach helped too I'm sure! This area was quiet! It was a short walk to boardwalk that lead to beach, nice long beach either direction to walk.

Just Perfect!

This house made our weekend. Location is very close to the beach. You can sit on your beautiful screened-in porch and hear the waves. The views of the sunset from the top porch are breathtaking.The house is lovely inside with some very unique beach decor. The owners have done an outstanding job of providing renters with everything they could possibly need.The owners were great to work with and answered my inquiry quickly.Cannot wait for a return trip to this wonderful house!

Looking for your happy place?

This is my 4th stay at Cape San Blas, we typically come for scalloping, and I was not disappointed. Al Kite is a super host, a great communicator who gives you the locals take on all the must do activities. We always fish when in CSB, this time surf fishing and catching some whiting, catfish, pinfish and croaker, a bonnethead and sand shark, and one giant stingray, The house is steps from the beach making it so convenient to enjoy the beach, fishing, bonfires and an incredible star show at night. We had a great day trip to St. George Island and the The Apalachicola NERR Nature Center with a quick stop at Indian Pass Raw Bar (lots of fun). We got the low country shrimp boil, as per Al's suggestion, from Skully's, and loved the live music on the bay at Scallop Republic. This was a great home base location for all our adventures, such fun eclectic decorations that add to the beachy mood, everything you need for a great vacation. We will definately be back.

Everything you'd want in a vacation home

So I'm that person that brings clorox wipes and wipes all surfaces, washes dishes before using. I did not do that @ , well equiped kitchen & home (we cooked all but 1 meal for a 7 night stay.) Nice eating area on screened in deck & lovely nook of a grilling patio under with swing & two chairs, charcoal grill. Beach was beautiful, shells plentiful, residents & guests very friendly & informative who live in area, quiet. Home-owner has lots of beach equipment including chairs; outdoor shower, hose & fish cleaning station. Limited views of ocean, nice folks who live in area. Beach was not crowded, saw tons of wildlife - dolphins, osprey, butterlies, dragonflies, sandpipers, lizards. Homeowner very helpful, informative & attentive to any questions we might have had. No negatives whatsoever.

Another Amazing Stay at the Cape!

We recently returned from our second stay at Home by the Sea and had an AMAZING time. This is truly a home away from home at the beach, and has great beachy vibes throughout! The Kites have provided everything you could need and more! Even though we spent more time eating out at restaurants Mr. Kite recommended to us, there is a kitchen full of all the necessities. The beds and bedding are very comfy. The large, screened-in patio has a large table so you can enjoy your meals outside without fighting bugs. The home was very clean upon arrival! The outside shower and area to rinse off is great so you’re not tracking in a bunch of sand. The home has beautiful ocean views and it’s an extremely short walk to the beach. I could go on and on, but just know the pictures and descriptions of the home are all accurate and you will not be disappointed! The Kites are available for any questions/concerns and have lots of good information to share about the area, including restaurant recommendations! Thank you again to The Kites for making our second stay so enjoyable! We made great memories and can’t wait to come back!

Great escape

Found this gem by accident because the house I was going to rent was taken the night before. We were so lucky to find this spot. Within 15 minutes of requesting info Al was on the phone giving me so much information making us feel welcome. Having stayed on the cape several times in the passed couple of years this was by far the best location we’ve had so far. From the quiet neighborhood, secluded section of beach that was very peaceful. The house offered everything we needed for the week and the beds were fantastic, the best I’ve slept in at any stay anywhere. Al and Susan are wonderful hosts, making sure we had everything we needed and making sure the house was to the standard that they expected once we arrived. Fabulous Thanksgiving Weekend

Beautiful location steps from the beach, wonderful screened porch with large table for taking all meals outside! Great outside space as well for rinsing off, relaxing, taking some shade. Beds were comfy, we enjoyed the balcony as well. We have stayed in several VRBO properties over the years and this was the best-appointed kitchen I have ever used. Everything was working in excellent condition throughout the rental property, as well, and the owners provide outstanding customer service.

A perfect month away from snow and cold

This was our first time to the Port St Joe area. Al and Susan’s condo on Cape San Blas was the perfect place to weather out a pandemic and get away from the snow and cold of a So.Dak. January. One of our concerns when we initially booked in August ‘20 was what would happen if we had to cancel last minute because of CoVid. Al was very accommodating by including a clause in the contract for a complete refund if we had to cancel. The other concern was the cleanliness of the condo. This was waylaid from the moment we walked into the condo. Our home away from home was spotless. Everything was exactly as listed on the web site. Since we had decided to eat most of our meals in the condo, we appreciated the Cusinart cookware including knives and coffeemaker. Everything we needed to prepare our meals was there. The beds and upgraded linens were very comfortable. We did bring our own towels. Although the washing machine was a bit loud during the cycle, we did appreciated that the washer and dryer were full size. Al checked in with us a few times during the month to make sure we were doing okay. When the internet went down, he kept us informed as to what was going on. One of the reasons we chose this area in which to vacation during a pandemic was because of the sparse population but also wanting to be near a beach. We got exactly what we wanted. We saw not more than a dozen people on the long stretch beach at one time... usually less. The closest full grocery store was 20 minutes away but there were 2 C-stores on the Cape that had a few groceries. Now, let’s talk about the beautiful white sand beach, absolutely unexpected and stunningly beautiful. Even though the weather did not fully cooperate (January in the Florida panhandle), we were able to walk on the beach most days. The sunsets were glorious. (We have many pictures to verify.) This area is definitely The Forgotten Coast. When we did venture out to a restaurant or to explore the area, Al had given us a list of his favorite restaurants and things to do. We aren’t sure if it was because of Covid and/or the month of January but several of his restaurant suggestions were closed for business during January. Nevertheless, we still had outstanding meals when we decided not to cook at home. All in all, we couldn’t have asked for a better getaway. We truly fell in love with the area and plan to return. Thank you Al and Susan for being such great hosts.

Quiet Beach Getaway

This house is a perfect place for those looking to get away! It's exactly as advertised. Nothing was lacking that was needed. Cleaner than any rental we have ever stayed in. Beds are super comfy. Screened in porch was great for fall mornings and evenings. Short walk across to private boardwalk beach access. Restaurants are limited unless you drive to neighboring town, but kitchen is well equipped for cooking. Al is super helpful and made sure we knew how to access everything we needed. Great communication.

Beach Bum’s Paradise

My wife and I arrived in late august and found “Steps to The Beach” to be very nicely decorated in a wonderful ocean theme. The kitchen was well equipped for all of our cooking needs. We especially loved the spacious master bedroom with the Gulf facing deck that provided a great place for that first cup of coffee each morning. After a short walk we discovered a wonderful beach where we spent most of our two week stay. There were plenty of shells to be found and we had great luck fishing beyond the sand bar.Al is a great owner and made sure we were enjoying our stay. We definitely plan to book again in the future.

Little slice of heaven!

Our family of four visited for the first time and fell in love with Cape San Blas! Absolutely gorgeous. Al’s place was a great rental with a great location. So relaxing and close to the beach. We so enjoyed family time on the beach fishing, shelling, campfires and sunsets. Starting our days with coffee on the porches and ending with star gazing at night;) And yummy seafood close by. Always a favorite!

We have stayed here for two years, and we absolutely love the house, the beach, and everything about this vacation spot! This house is perfectly set up, you have everything you need available. The beach is close, access is a piece of cake, and the view from the top deck is amazing. The bay is just across the street, and with the park at the end of the road it is a piece of cake to access the bay multiple places. I could not say more about the location, it is perfect. Al has everything you need in the house for cooking, serving a family, going to the beach, taking a bike ride, whatever it is you want to do. The cleanliness is outstanding as well. We always get great tips on where to go, what to visit, where to get anything we need. Al is so responsive and helpful. We love staying here and plan to come back as much as possible!

Perfect trip even in year of COVID-19

We were already in love with Cape San Blas, but our experience with the owners, the Kite’s, solidified their place at the Cape as our permanent vacation spot for the foreseeable future! We had everything we needed at the home especially in the kitchen, and the place felt very clean-even down to their storage shed off the carport. You will have a wonderful trip with a small family or a few friends. There are plenty of places to sit and relax both inside and outside. The bedrooms are very spacious with plenty of places to tuck away your suitcases and almost forget you’re a visitor. The owners seem absolutely committed to keeping their place in excellent shape so that all you have to do is show up, buy groceries, and enjoy your vacation. Cape San Blas, itself is the perfect vacation spot in this COVID-19 age we find ourselves. Social distancing is very easy as most people who are visiting are interested in a low key, quiet, family vacation. We look forward to returning next year.

Fantastic Stay!

This is our second year in a row staying with Al and Susan on Cape San Blas. We stayed for a week over Memorial Day. The renewed beach is fantastic and although it was a holiday weekend, the beach was quiet as usual. Stepping foot onto the cape, it was like escaping into a different world where all was well and peaceful. The rental house was meticulously kept and Al was as usual very friendly and helpful, especially in navigating the state regulations governing rentals owing to COVID-19. We could not have had a better stay. To top it all off, we had forgotten a pair of readers at the rental house and Al mailed it back to us! Thank you for your hospitality and we will definitely return!

"our Home By the Sea" made a magical vacation PERFECT!!!

I grew up at Mexico Beach and Cape San Blas and have returned year after year for many years. I have traveled to beaches all over the world and have never found one that "tops" Cape San Blas for the qualities of peace, tranquility and breathtaking beauty!! My Home By the Sea is absolutely perfect for a small family to enjoy paradise without a worry to be had! The owners, Al and Susan Kite are very gracious and have paid attention to literally every possible detail to make this house a wonderful and comfortable place to call your home while you are on the Cape. The beds are comfy the sheets are beautiful, everything is spotless and the kitchen is to die for! It is equipped with literally everything that you will need to make a fine meal or go downstairs and grill shrimp and fresh fish! If you want to work - the wi fi is great and televisions are in each bedroom and in the living room. In summary - our stay was absolutely perfect and we are so grateful to the Kite's for sharing their Home By the Sea with us!

We didn’t want to leave

Everything was perfect. As our children have gotten older, it’s difficult to get everyone together. We enjoyed our week in the beach house. The walk to the beach was easy and the beach was so peaceful. We always try to cook during the week because eating out is so costly. All the kitchen ware was great. The griddle allowed us to make perfect pancakes! So sad to be back in Illinois but all good things must come to an end

Wonderful, relaxing beach house!

We enjoyed a perfect week at Home by the Sea. The location was a wonderful spot on the Cape - not too far out on the peninsula and close to the convenience stores, restaurants, ice cream and donut stand! And of course, the close proximity to the beach and the views from the relaxing deck and screen porch were icing on the cake. The owner was great with providing recommendations and answering questions all throughout our stay. The home was very clean and had comfortable mattresses. Our whole family slept wonderfully and was able to fully relax and recharge on our trip. We highly recommend for location and proximity to beach and amenities on the Cape!

Loved staying at Home by the Sea!

This is a fanatastic place to stay! Al and Susan have paid attention to the most important details and it shows if you stay at Home by the Sea. The home is up to date and beautifully decorated with bright furnishings that are clean and comfortable, some that are amusing, I loved the cat canister on the kitchen counter!!! The beds and pillows are so comfortable and clean crisp linens provided along with plenty of towels etc. for the bathrooms. Loved the screened in porch and upper deck for enjoying the ocean view. The area in which this rental is located is perfect. Just a few steps to the beautiful beach. It’s quiet and peaceful on the Cape and especially in Barefoot Trace subdivision. Appalachicola, Port St. Joe, Mexico Beach, and St George Island are all a very short distance to if you like dining out you are in a perfect location to have a great choice. If you don’t want to leave the Cape there are some also plenty of places to choose from as well. Al and Susan will fill you in on places to eat. Don’t forget to check out the donuts and ice cream for your sweet tooth. You don’t have to worry about the owners neglecting your needs. They are extremely helpful and accommodating and will be checking with you to make sure you don’t have any issues. They also give you plenty of good information to make sure you have an enjoyable stay. I definitely recommend Home by the Sea. When I come back to the Cape I will be in touch with Al and Susan. What an AWESOME experience!!!!!

We are a family of five with two teens and a ten year old. Our typical vacation consist of places like Panama City or Destin Florida and this was by far the best beach and vacation as a family I believe we have ever had. Al & Susan were top notch owners and the most hands own I’ve ever experienced. They sent us emails explaining everything about the beach, bay, house, local restaurants and fishing information. We kept in touch by text and also the day we arrived Al called just to make sure we found the house in great condition. It was everything and more we ever dreamed of. We didn’t want to leave and we will definitely be back! The pictures do not do it justice it is very close to Heaven on Earth.

Our very first visit to the Cape was in 2005 and we stayed at Al and Susan’s Home by the Sea. A few years later we came back again. This year’s visit was as special as the ones before. They have kept their place in remarkable shape by making updates and taking great care of every detail. In spite of the destruction on the Cape and surrounding areas, we had everything we needed for a safe and fun vacation. Excellent location and fantastic vacation home!

This was our first time visiting the Cape and we had heard nothing but fantastic reviews about the area. WE WERE NOT DISAPPOINTED! From the very first contact with the owner Al, the experience was awesome, easy and made the experience that much more enjoyable. The home is meticulously cared for and Al made the stay perfect by being in touch throughout the entire time to ensure that we were having an excellent stay and in need of nothing. We are a family of 6 that included a 19 year old, 16 year old, 13 year old and 8-month old and we were able to stay comfortably with no issues. The location is perfect and the beach was awesome and so close. If our plans take us back to Cape San Blas (which we believe they will) we will definitely be looking to return to the Home by the Sea and excited to reconnect with Al and his beautiful home.

Our favorite Cape rental

This was our 4th February at Al & Susan's Home by the Sea. Every year has been wonderful Al has made updates every year. When staying for a month comfortable beds are necessary & these are outstanding. The dedicated walkway & steps to the beach are a plus. Having a screened in porch is perfect. The upper deck is great for sitting in sun & listening to the waves. Al is just phone call away if any questions or concerns. We are already booked for 2020!!

Home by the Sea on Cape San Blas

Al was a joy to deal with on this rental--open, transparent and very considerate. The house was perfectly furnished--so many cute beach related items, any convenience needed and very clean. We especially enjoyed the upstairs deck off the main bedroom--very pleasant on sunny afternoons and starry nights. The house is in close proximity to the beach--just steps away, which was very convenient. We liked having a protected area to park our car and bicycles under the house. Cooking facilities were very good, as was the refrigerator and it was handy to have a washer/dryer. All in all it is a very pleasant place to spend time in Florida. If we return to Cape San Blas we would enjoy staying there again. Thanks for a wonderful time.

The place was wonderful the first time we visited,but the owners had made several upgrades and they made it even more beautiful.The rental is located just steps from the beach and has all kinds of beach stuff you can use while relaxing or playing on the beach(backpack style chairs,umbrella,beach toys,and bicycles if u want to go for a ride) We also loved the fact that each bedroom has its own bathroom and both have king size beds. Plus there is a couch that is a queen sleeper sofa. The king beds are so comfortable! I’m pretty used to our sleep number bed at home so it’s very hard for me to find a bed that I think is as comfortable as ours. I loved the jacuzzi tub and spent many nights in it. We also loved the screened in porch area and sat out there many nights just relaxing. The home has a really nice,fully stocked kitchen that I enjoyed cooking in during some of our stay and love the fact that there is a washer and dryer there. Also, I loved the fact that linens were provided so less packing for us. The owners are super friendly and have great tips on things to do,places to eat,etc. They also ask for suggestions on improving the place (which I think is awesome). We fished from the pier in Apalachicola (about a 20 mins drive) and we absolutely LOVED St Joe Peninsula Park. We went out there several days and it’s just a few mins drive from the rental. It costs $6 a car load and we were the only ones on the beach. The sunsets on the beach are AMAZING and we’ve only been home a week and I can’t wait to go back! We also visited several museums in Apalachicola and rented lighted kayaks for a museums in Apalachicola and rented lighted kayaks for a ride at night. Love that the Cape is far enough away from everything to relax but close enough if we decided to go shopping or something we didn’t have to drive many great things about our stay and I just know I’m forgetting to write about some of them. Anyway, I’m so glad we found this place and we will definitely be staying at Al & Susan’s place when we return!

Best vaca ever!!!

For our 2 small children and a much needed home away from this house is top notch in my opinion. Just steps from the beach and so many much needed items already provided in the shed (some items we even added to lol) helped out on cost and relaxation! Spotless home very well keep and remodeled, great communication and hospitality from the owners. We couldn’t have asked for anything more! Thank u so much for the memories we’ve made!! Def be returning to Home by the Sea!

Perfect beach house!

Do yourself a favor and pick this house! We just left the Cape and this place did not disappoint. Mr. Al & Mrs.Susan really thought of everything you could possibly need to make your stay perfect. All you really have to do is pack your clothes and sunscreen and head to the Cape . This is the best location. You are steps to the beach and anything you may need or want from the stores are in walking distance. The house has bikes, chairs, sand toys, and really everything! We had 4 adults and a 4 year old child and it was plenty of room and definitely child friendly. Our child did not want to leave he cried when it was time to pack up and go home. He said he didn't want to leave his beach house. If you have any questions or want any tips Mr. Al is readily available to help. From fishing tips to dining out he was spot on. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us. We hope to be back soon!

Great place

We had a wonderful time at Home By The Sea. The location was great. Shortest walk to beach I have ever had. The unit was very well stocked. Al is very accommodating, and if you need anything he is just a call away. If you want a place to be lazy and not have crowds of people, this is your place!

Love it!

Over several years, we have stayed at three different homes on CSB, and Home By The Sea is definitely the best. Al and Susan put so much care into the details, it really is like home away from home. Super comfortable beds, beautiful décor, top of the line appliances- this one has it all. We are actually going to buy the same coffee pot that they have! It's a short walk to the beach, and there are plenty of beach accessories as well. Plus, the hosts are so gracious and informative. if you need anything, Al knows where to get it!

Home by the sea

This is our sixth stay. The place is always an upgrade and always amazes us as a family. The beds are an upgrade to what you expect, and sleeping well makes the rest of the trip go well. You have a sun deck, an insect free screened in deck, and a porch swing deck to choose from. The amenities are always better than expected. The beach is close enough that you can carry any beach supplies easily without wearing yourself out. Having stayed here 6 times over the last 10 years, I can vouch for the owner’s genuine care for the place and the visitors experience. When you stay here, you feel like you are in somebody’s home. The decor is part of that experience as these folks keep the place looking like a gallery all the time. Stay here. You won’t regret it

Fabulous home and location on the Cape!

We spent nearly two weeks at Home by the Sea, and cannot recommend it enough! Al and Susan have obviously spent so much time to make this a special home! Upgraded kitchen, carpet, floors - and so many thoughtful touches throughout - you will just love it! It is just a very short walk to the most gorgeous beach - we spent so much time there- swimming in the warm gulf, walking, bird watching, and even spotted dolphins swimming near us on two different occasions! Every day is different depending on the weather, tides and wind. Just incredible. We ate out at fantastic restaurants Al recommended in both Port St. Joe and Apalachicola - all great. We also did a fair amount of cooking in the spacious kitchen, enjoying the fresh fish and shrimp markets in the area. The beds are super comfy and with the high speed internet and several t.v.'s - you cannot ask for more. Al is great about communication and will always be just a phone call or text away. We will be back next year, would not think of staying anywhere else. Thank you Al and Susan for an awesome holiday!!!
