If you desire PRIVACY & NATURE, this retreat is for you! Our home is Located on Long Key, MM-69, in the tiny laid back town of Layton, FL. Long Key is conveniently located between Islamorada (MM-75) & Marathon (MM-60); "out of the fray but just a few miles away.....!!" The real beauty is we are surrounded by NATURE, the way the Keys looked before man arrived. The retreat backs up to the 1,000 acre Long Key State Park. There is ZERO development to the east offering 180 degrees of natural beauty & AWESOME sunrises over the forest of mangroves! To the west is Layton Baptist Church, which is occupied a couple hours on Sundays. Our home is on a cul-de-sac that has very little traffic. Of the 14 houses around the church only 3 are full time owners. The rest are second homes for people and rarely rented out. By code/ordinance the shortest lease time is 3 months. All these factors create a VERY PRIVATE and relaxing area off the beaten path providing a venue to unwind, relax & commune with nature.

The home itself was built in 1988 & renovated in 2022. It is extremely sturdy, built with cast in place concrete and concrete blocks. It sits 10' above mean high tide & provides 360 degrees of view via a 6' covered walk around porch. Under the house is a HUGE family gathering area by the pool. There is a 6 person outdoor dining table, rocking chairs, a utility room (new full size fridge, new GE front load washer/dryer with plenty of shelf storage) and enough room for several cars to park under the house. There is an outside elevator to second floor for moving in luggage and groceries. Two steps down is the HUGE outside deck area that spans to the 80' of bulkheaded dock area. This dock has boat bumpers every 10', mooring cleats a huge 8' fish/lobster cleaning station & tiki torches too!

Inside are 2 BR's/2BA's with new king size beds. There is a queen size fold out sofa bed in large family room with high definition Sony smart TV with Xfinity high speed internet. The dinning room table seats 8 & is adjacent to fully functional kitchen with all modern conveniences . This home is fully furnished with all bedding, bath/pool towels, and kitchen ware.

The "Roman Bath" style heated pool just received it's final permitting on
Nov, 1 2023. It is a concrete pool that has the finest finishes & sits 18" above grade that provides seating for those that do not want swim but still be part of the fun. It has 2 chaise lounges, 2 zero gravity chairs, 2 pool foam loungers, and monthly pool service.

"Nature RETREAT" is the next to last home to the north sitting ON Zane Gray Creek. This pristine Creek is crystal clear and is full of wildlife! This very healthy living creek sits between Long Key Bight & Long Key Lake. You can sit on the second floor rocking chairs and see manatees, loggerhead turtles, green turtles, hawksbill turtles, many species of fish, sharks and even a salt water crocodile on occasion! You can also fish right off the dock. If you're a bird watcher bring your binoculars too.

Right off the dock you can KAYAK (not provided) or STAND UP PADDLE BOARD (provided) for MANY miles. Head south and explore Long Key Lake & even paddle to Long Key State Park facilities. To the North meander through the mangroves, mangrove tunnels & venture into Long Key Bight and beyond.

If you bring a power boat there is 40' of dock, 30 amp power, water, and fuel delivery to your boat with 100 gallons (minimum) of REC-90 ethanol free gasoline; which is much cheaper than marinas or gas stations. It is about 1/2 mile voyage through the beautiful mangroves (all natural, no trace of man) to the west end of Long Key Bight. This protected area is ideal to boat to the bayside under the 65' high CHANNEL 5 BRIDGE or head east to open ocean. Too much fishing/lobstering opportunity to list. Call Owner to discuss further.

Area Information

The tiny town of laid back Layton is the 12th smallest in America with a population of 200 people. It is situated right beside Long Key State park with the main entrance just a mile away to the west. This park has hiking with awesome ocean views, mangrove lowlands & elevated dock to walk through the mangroves.

Down another mile is Long Key Bridge hiking, biking & fishing bridge. This is on the old Henry Flagler train bridge so no auto traffic (which runs on "new" Long Key Bridge). This is 2.5 miles one way so 5 miles round trip which is an excellent work out. This is also a great place to see the sun rise too!

"Out of the fray, but just miles away" is the truth & one of main reasons we purchased this home. Depending on A1A highway traffic you can be in downtown Islamorada or Marathon in 15-20 minutes.
