The community’s waterways are well-maintained with consistent depths, thanks to a lock system that regulates water flow to and from the Myakka River. Canal depths typically range from 6 to 9 feet, with bridge clearances of approximately 10 feet. Many properties—particularly those located north of Calumet (Section 93) and south of Appleton Blvd.—are designated as sailboat water, meaning no fixed bridges and easy access for larger vessels.
Residents and guests enjoy convenient access to the water via a county-maintained public boat ramp within the community.

Our stay at this beautiful home in South Gulf Cove was absolutely wonderful from start to finish. This tastefully decorated home struck the perfect balance between comfort and style, with thoughtful design touches throughout that made us feel immediately welcomed. The property offered ample space for our entire group, ensuring everyone had plenty of room to relax and enjoy their time without feeling cramped. The amenities were truly perfect for our needs - everything we could have hoped for was readily available and in excellent condition. From the well-appointed kitchen that made meal preparation a breeze to the comfortable living areas where we gathered each evening, every detail seemed carefully considered. The bedrooms were spacious and restful, providing the perfect retreat after busy days exploring Port Charlotte and the surrounding area. The location in South Gulf Cove proved ideal, offering both tranquility and convenient access to local attractions. We particularly appreciated the peaceful neighborhood setting while still being close enough to enjoy everything the Port Charlotte area has to offer. Perfect privacy
We’ve stayed at Key Kine Kottage 3 times and loved it. It has unusual privacy due to being set way back from the highway and having dense mangroves along each side. There isn’t an expansive view of the gulf but that can be enjoyed on the bench at the end of the dock. There is no beach and there’s a lot of floating weed debris along the dock so entry with a kayak from shore would be unpleasant. There’s a metal ladder that can be lowered at the end of the dock to use though one would have to be in good shape to do that. The house is comfortable with plenty of seating. We took our daughter & family. The kids (5 & 7) were in heaven with the pool and spa. I was told that the owners are going to get the inpool light fixed. The pool area is nicely covered but bring big spray because the tiny unseen biting bugs are around and cause red extremely itchy bumps similar to mosquitoes. The kitchen is great. The disposal wasn’t working but they are getting that fixed. We were happy not to have to take the garbage buggies to the road and back. It’s extremely challenging to find a place with this much privacy and with a private pool with attached spa.
