Unique Benefits

Mar Azul is an Oceanfront property at the end of a quiet, 'Key-zee' street. You will enjoy Total Privacy with Lush Tropical Landscaping including Gumbo Limbo, Coconut Palm, Sea Grape and White Bird of Paradise which completely surround the Property.

The Home is designer decorated with contemporary colors, loads of fine architectural details including Crema Marfil Polished Marble, Granite, Hardwood Floors, Open-Air Porches and Balconies. Located at mile marker 52, Key West is about an hour away.

No tan lines? No problem! With a Salt Pool (much less chlorine), Chaise Lounges and Covered Grilling/Picnic area, the Pool Deck is comfortable and Private.

The Mangrove Walkway leads you thru a Thick Tropical Hammock and ends at a 30-foot long Dock on the Atlantic Ocean where you can experience the Natural Beauty of the Florida Keys. Marked Channels follow the shoreline and lead to Deeper Water.

Although most pets are allowed, they need to be approved in advance.

Why Kids Love It

Our Mangrove Walkway to the Ocean is a wonderful delight - often occupied by Tropical Birds and Curious Iguanas. At the end of the walk is the Ocean, upfront and personal! At times you can sit quietly and listen to the sound of Pelicans flapping their wings as they pass by just overhead. Watch them diving into the water to feed on small fish. Observe long-legged Egrets and Heron carefully stalking their prey at low tide, and hundreds of Mullet schooling together to avoid predators on the Flats. Notice how the color of the Ocean constantly changes with the changing of the Tide. Serene yet invigorating, full of life!

Area Information

MARATHON: CLOSE, YET VERY FAR AWAY! Marathon is about 10 miles in length. Made up of 13 islands, Marathon is surrounded by water and is known for its Stunning Coral Reefs, Fresh Seafood and Tropical Vibe. Centrally located, from here you can reach any part of the Keys in an hour or less. Enjoy the world-famous Sloppy Joe's Bar and a Key West Sunset, or head up to Robbie's in Islamorada to hand feed the Tarpon!

Marathon is unique in so many ways (and by the way, traffic is minimal when you get this far down.) Popular attractions include Aquarium Encounters, Dolphin Research Center, The Turtle Hospital, Sombrero Beach, Crane Point and Curry Hammock State Parks. World-Class Water Sports include Scuba Diving and Snorkeling, Offshore and Inshore Fishing, Boating and Kayaking. Participate in Interactive Exhibits where you can pet and feed Dolphin, Sharks, Fish and Reptiles.

Sombrero Beach is perhaps the nicest Beach in Marathon. Besides soft sand and swimming, the park includes a shaded area with picnic pavilions, volleyball courts, restrooms and showers.

Boat rentals are available as well as Kayak, Bicycle and Car rentals. Many of these establishments will deliver right to the Property. One of the establishments that rents kayaks and bikes is only one block away.

7-Mile Bridge/Pigeon Key. Constructed by Henry Flagler and completed in 1912, the original bridge is no longer in use, but is open to foot and bicycle traffic. This is a great place for an early morning walk or jog. Looking down to the water, the colors and the channels created by the moving current is an amazing site. Continue out to Pigeon Key - A 5-acre island that was at one time served as a work camp for the Railway. The former Assistant Bridge Tender's House has been converted into a small Museum featuring artifacts and images from the past.

The City of Marathon invites you to visit any of their 10 Pet-Friendly Parks. Marathon Community Park, for example, offers Tennis, Basketball Courts and Soccer Fields. Crane Point Hammock features a Tropical Forest and Natural History Museum.

In Marathon you will find everything that you might need. There are 2 grocery stores, hardware stores, drug stores, marine supply stores, a private airport, and even a hospital. One thing that is especially nice is that except for boat ramps and beaches, you rarely ever need to pay for parking anywhere in Marathon!

Marathon Restaurants offer a variety of Fresh Locally-Sourced Seafood including Lobster Tail, Stone Crab, Shrimp and a variety of Fish cooked to perfection. Popular establishments include Florida Keys Steak and Lobster House, Lighthouse Kitchen & Bar, Herbie's, Sparky's Landing and Cracked Conch Cafe.

Marathon hosts an array of easy-to-reach Coral Reefs and Wrecks. Sombrero Reef has a magnificent display of Live Corals and Sea Fans, teeming with schools of colorful Tropical Fish. With average depths of 30-feet, Sombrero is perfect for both beginners and experts. Looe Key offers visitors the chance to dive The Adolphus Busch; a 210-foot freighter in 110-feet of water. There are an endless number of underwater sites for snorkeling and scuba diving. You can rent equipment or fill your own tanks at one of the many dive shops in Marathon. Try night diving!

Home to some of the best sport fishing in the world, there are numerous Fishing Guides and Charters, some of whom can even pick you up right from the Dock! Offshore guides specialize in Sailfish, Dolphin (Mahi Mahi), Tuna, Wahoo, Snapper and Grouper whereas shallow water Backcountry guides specialize in Bonefish, Permit, Tarpon and Redfish. Sip tropical drinks while grilling your own freshly-caught fillets poolside! How cool is that?!!

The 73-foot Marathon Lady, only a few blocks away, offers a nice opportunity to bring home fresh Snapper and Grouper from our Offshore Reefs. Party Boat Fishing is a family-fun experience, and is easily affordable.

Attractions Within Walking Distance

Oceanfront Park is located between 98th and 99th Streets. (Mar Azul is on 95th Street, Mile Marker 52.) The Park borders on the Atlantic Ocean offering a relaxing place to picnic, fish and launch your kayak. The field is dog-friendly and has an open area to fly kites and exercise.

Sweet Savannahs is also within walking distance and offers Signature Cakes, Desserts and Ice Cream.

The EAA Air Museum is located on US 1 at the end of 98th Street. There you will find a collection of several aircraft including a DC3, and a variety of models representing many periods of flight. There is also an extensive collection of aviation memorabilia and equipment. Admission is free.

Favorite Places To Eat

Keys Fisheries. Very Informal/Excellent Seafood. Rather than being seated, here you order from a walk-up window and then take your tray of food to one of many covered dockside picnic tables to enjoy. My husband's favorite is the Hogfish Sandwich. (Where else can you find that?) Keys Fisheries also has a comfortable Bar built on Stilts and overlooking Florida Bay. KF is located at the Harbor where local boats unload their fresh catch daily. The wide variety of seafood available is amazing and consistent.

There are too many great restaurants and bars to possibly name. What is for sure is that each has it's own unique flavor and atmosphere. From high end to dockside, elegant to casual, quiet to disorderly, you can draw your own conclusions.

Inside Scoop

Located in an out-of-the-way shopping center, Frank's Grille (although it's a little expensive) needs to be on your list of restaurants to try.

Both Green and Loggerhead Turtles nest and lay their eggs at Sombrero Beach during the late Spring thru early Summer. You'll need to go at night. It is important to not get too close or to shine your flashlight directly upon the Turtles or disturb them in any manner. In the late Summer thru early Fall you might be lucky enough to see the little Hatchlings making their way to the water. Walking the Beach first thing in the morning looking for Turtle Nests is an awesome experience!

At Crane Point Hammock you there is a place where you can put your feet in the water and have little tiny fish nibble on your toes. It's called a "Fish Pedicure". It tickles!

A safe and beautiful haven for my family

To begin with Lisa is the hot digging bomb The property is amazingly beautiful and immaculately kept They even have a butter dish My husband had a great 60yh Bday, Lisa even had a ballon waiting for him My sons up and down to the pool and water perfectly secluded but me able to see at all times ( very important since both are autistic) I recommend this property and the manager wholeheartedly Many Blessings

Best place

Second time and we will return. Mar Azul is everything you'd expect from an upscale, secluded, ocean accessible home! The pool (floating on an inflatable mattress) is our happy place, gazing at the fabulous landscaping and birds that fly overhead. So many options and things to do! Lisa is wonderful and my only hesitation in writing this is that others will discover it!

Perfect Retreat!

For our first trip ever to the Keys, this one has set the bar EXTREMELY high!! From start to finish and top to bottom, this rental was amazing! Lisa was so responsive from my first inquiry to our final communications when we left. The house and property were absolutely beautiful - well appointed and the absolute cleanest pet-friendly rental we have ever stayed in. Pics don't even do it justice. Location was also perfect - secluded but not far away from all the necessities. Our kids and pets enjoyed the outdoor space SO MUCH. While our daughters spent most of their "home time" enjoying the pool, our son was out fishing from the dock all hours. He caught barracuda, nurse shark, mangrove snapper, (sizeable) tarpon, and jacks right off the end of the dock. He also was able to call everyone down to see the manatee that visited almost daily. We made the short trip to Bahia Honda SP several days to snorkle and explore, drove to Key West for a day, and biked to Sombrero Beach from the house. The drive up to Robbies was also SO WORTH IT!! If we could give this house 10 stars we would!

Glorious sunrises in Marathon

This home is ideally located right on the Atlantic coast. The views are spectacular. Our favorite thing was watching the sunrise from the master bedroom. The house is comfortable and beautifully appointed. We enjoyed our stay very much and recommend this lovely home for a perfect Keys vacation.

Magnificent

Let me start by saying that we used to live in the Keys for years so, nothing impressed us much. This property is perfection, Lisa has been so supportive since we booked, I won't go in details but do to health issues, it was a constant struggle to make it, finally we did, we are so thankful for her emails encouraging us, what a pleasure to deal with a person that has such a kind heart and compassion for others. About the property... 3rd floor: unimaginable views from the master bedroom, the bed? we checked the mattress because we definitely need one like it, we slept like babies . The master bathroom is amazing with a jacuzzi tub, the shower is wonderful, the second bedroom on that floor is beautiful. Main floor: There is another bedroom with shower and another bathroom with laundry in it, living, dining and kitchen, they all have wonderful views of the ocean, nice terrace to have breakfast or late afternoon drinks , the kitchen has everything you need, I was very impressed with glasses and China being spotless. One if the things that really impressed me was the DECOR, no ocean/fish/beach and so on of the same that you find in every house you rent in the Keys; the decor was warm, cozy, tasteful, and VERY CLASSIC. The bottom floor is where the fun happens, nice 2 car garage, the pool is super nice, clean and warm, you do not want to get out because it feels so good. The cabana and covered Barbecue area are a plus, the walk to get to the end of the pier is very nice, we spent a lot of time there, if you are lucky, you can catch some fish, just a glass of wine and the sunset, are priceless. Again, wonderful property in paradise, the price? Amazing, don't even think twice, if you are lucky enough to be able to rent it (is always booked, lol) then go ahead and do it, you won't regret it. It was only my husband and I and we had a great peaceful time, Key West is close and then you go to your quiet place. Enjoy it..thanks again Lisa, it was all worth it

Marathon's Private Paradise

If you are looking for a private waterfront property that is so well appointed you think you are looking a home from Home and Garden Magazine, look no further than Mar Azul. The pictures provided will give you a small taste of the incredible property you are renting, but still do not give the location justice. We spent a week with three couples and the accommodations could not have been better even with just two full bathrooms. The kitchen provides everything you need for cooking up any meal of the day. Their is plenty of comfortable seating/lounging both inside and out. We rented a 22' Sea Fox center console boat and had no problem with keeping it at the Mar Azul dock. Before I forget, the view from the third story deck is just spectacular. One night we had the pleasure of watching an Osprey on the hunt and then dine in the tree just out front of the house. Plenty of bird life as well takes place while you enjoy a cocktail at the end of the dock. We have rented a number of homes throughout the US and the Islands and can say there is no one more attentive to your needs than the owner of this beautiful home, Lisa. From our first inquiry until the day of departure, Lisa was in contact with us and making sure everything was in order. All-in-all the only issue with Mar Azul, is that it makes it extremely tough to leave the house to enjoy all that the Keys has to offer.

Mar Azul was wonderful

Mar Azul was exactly as billed. It was spotless and very relaxing. The rooms are well appointed and the house and pool are quite private. We rented SUPs and had them right on our dock to use every day in the tranquil bay. The dock area is secluded and also great for sunbathing. The porches too are very private. We would definitely rent again! The owner was responsive and helpful. Mark

Great house and location

My husband, daughter, son-in-law and 2 grandsons recently stayed for one week. The location of the house was great, close to everything. The boys loved fishing off the dock and swimming in the pool. The house is very nice and clean and the beds are comfortable (very important to us). We had a great time and Lisa was very helpful and informative. I would highly recommend this house!!

Recent stay at Mar Azul

We recently spent the week at Mar Azul for the Holiday. I can’t even begin to say what a beautiful home it is. The decor inside is lovely but even better is what awaits outside. The lush tropical paradise made us feel we were in an oasis. The views are absolutely breathtaking the perfect setting for a family of 6 to enjoy every aspect of Lisa’s property. From the abundance of deck space to enjoying the pool area with many seating venues to even relaxing and enjoying the magnificent sunsets or sunrises on the dock through the mangrove. Lisa was a delight to work with from the very beginning to the end. Thank you Lisa! We plan to make another trip back to Mar Azul in the future! A little slice of Paradise!

Loved Mar Azul & the Owner

We stayed at Mar Azul in Marathon, FL from October 10-18, 2020. We drove from St Petersburg and ended up arriving well after dark. Lisa, the owner, was wonderful and made sure the outside lights were on for our late arrival. We fell in love with the place the moment we arrived and even more so when we saw everything in the day light. It is a private tropical paradise nestled into an area close to everything. We loved the privacy of the pool area. There were also beautiful views of the Atlantic from the living areas of the house (2nd & 3rd floors) and the private dock. The private boardwalk to the dock was nice. The master bedroom on the 3rd floor was a treat. It was large, with a sitting area and had great views of the Atlantic from the patio. The house is well stocked & had everything we needed for our stay. We were very comfortable at Mar Azul. We were also able to bring our two elderly dogs, which was wonderful!!! There are stairs (outside to the home’s entrance & inside to the 3rd floor) so we had to carry the 15 yr old with bad eyes up & down them (he is 19lbs so we had no problem carrying him. If you have a dog that can’t handle stairs make sure you are comfortable carrying them up & down stairs). The other dog was able to handle the stairs herself. The owner Lisa was a delight to work with from the moment I reached out to her with questions about Mar Azul through our entire stay. Lisa is so friendly and responsive you couldn’t ask for a better landlord!!! Lucky for us Lisa was even able to accommodate our last minute request to add an extra day to our stay. Lisa, really made everything easy for us! Marathon also turned out to be a great location in thebKeys. Lots to do in Marathon and it is close to the other Keys as well. Key West was only about an hour drive. Key West was nice to visit for a day but much preferred Marathon for our stay in the Keys. It was just the two of us & our dogs so we had the master bedroom but there are 2 other bedrooms if you have more people. We would definitely stay at Mar Azul again or any other place Lisa owns for that matter! Anyway, if you are on the fence about Mar Azul go for it!!! You won’t be disappointed!

Nature Paradise. 30 mins to Reef by boat, private mangrove walkway from pool to dock, great team running the place.

This is both a unique and well-run property. Lisa is very accessible and responsive. I left something very valuable here, and before I even realized it Lisa had told me it was found and wanted to know where to send it. The house is very clean, beds are very comfortable. There's great cooking stuff & grill setup. Pool heated, small, but big enough for everyone. We stayed here twice in 2018 and we will be staying here again. There is so much life in the mangroves. Keys Kayak LLc will deliver kayaks before you arrive [totally cool, about .5 miles away]. I've had kayaks here and rented boats at this property--21'-23'. It's great kayaking locally. There are tarpon right at the dock at night and high tide. I've hooked but not landed a large tarpon right from the dock. Low tide you might kick up some mud parking but this place is fine by boat.

As avertised, Perfect

We enjoyed this home for 21 days over the Winter Holidays. It is phenomenal! Finding an oceanfront, quiet property, on a quaint “keysee” street, with gated access is not all that easy. This home makes you feel like you are in your own private compound. The grounds are extremely well maintained and a private boardwalk through the mangroves leads to a small dock that can support keeping a shallow water boat at your beckon call. The heated pool area is very welcoming and the landscaping is beautiful. All of which is amazing as Hurricane Irma passed over the Keys just 3 months earlier than our visit. As I looked at some of the nearby devastation, I came to understand just how special Lisa’s efforts were/are to restore Mar Azul back to its wonderfully welcoming state. This alone should give you a feel of how aggressively she ensures her guest enjoy their visit. The two master suites are very large and well-appointed with bedding, linens, storage, and very nicely decorated. The third bedroom bed room does not have an in-suite bath but is equally beautiful. The house is optimized for perhaps two couples and maybe some kids. The great room is not large but opens up to expansive decking with wonderful views. The kitchen is small but contains all you would ever need. I have rented multiple properties in the Keys and I assure you if you are looking for something you need while preparing your meals, you will find it at Mar Azul. Additionally, the gas grill under a poolside gazebo is perfect for grilling the bountiful treats you can pull from the Gulf or Atlantic. Marathon is a great Key, with plenty of shops and great restaurants. We will be back.
