We are new to this site so no reviews yet, BUT MANY AT OUR DIRECT SITE (SEE "LINKS" TAB ON THE LEFT) AND 14 YEARS of top reviews ON VRBO PROPERTY #186650. If you are seeking an Islamorada rental for your vacation, Anglers Reef 140 offers THE BEST LOCATION in the community! Built in 2008, we are the original owner, with many upgrades since. Anglers Reef is located at Mile Marker 84.9 in Islamorada. We are a private boutique vacation community of 52 homes inspired by Native Conch & British West Indies architecture. Gated and fenced for privacy, the Anglers community is a palette of Caribbean pastels with metal roofs bordering the ocean’s varying green and blue hues of the flats, the nearby sandbars and the deep Atlantic beyond.

Enjoy morning coffee, a good book, or evening cocktails and a BBQ on our spacious wraparound decks (OVER 600 SQFT OF COVERED DECK SPACE!) overlooking the Atlantic. Relax in the lushly landscaped pool area with heated & chilled community pool. Stroll the palm-lined streets and flowered walking paths, or just get a tan on one of two private beaches.

We also own a 31’ boat slip in the Anglers lagoon which we make optionally available to our guests. Use the Anglers deepwater channel for direct ocean access, as well as easy Gulf and backcountry access via the Snake Creek and Whale Harbor cuts, just a few minutes away – so you can easily get to every type of Islamorada fishing! Whether you bring or rent a boat, or launch a kayak and explore the famed Islamorada Flats and nearby mangrove islands, or charter with a local captain, you'll discover the many reasons why Islamorada is known as "The Fishing Capital of the World!” You can even fish right in the Anglers boat lagoon for mangrove snapper, barracuda, and more depending on season!

Although the Anglers community is oceanfront, only 5 homes are themselves actually oceanfront and we are one of the few that rents consistently. Past guests tell us we have the BEST views because we are directly overlooking the ocean with no mangroves or other tall trees to block any of our panoramic views of the Islamorada Flats and Atlantic beyond. We are also on the southeast corner of the community with only two adjacent Anglers neighbors for quiet and privacy.

In addition, we are one of the very few Anglers Reef homes offering 3 private bedrooms and spacious wraparound decks on both levels (most have small balconies). We are also the closest home to the South Beach and just 150′ from the gorgeous heated and chilled pool area with His and Hers bathrooms for your convenience (we’re close enough to the pool for convenience, but far enough away that you can enjoy a quiet afternoon or evening out on your deck!).

On the 1st floor, the fully equipped kitchen includes granite counters, a double sink, Viking refrigerator and microwave, KitchenAid stove and dishwasher, garbage disposal, and everything else you could need, from a blender to pasta pot to a pizza pan. There is also a full-size stacked washer/dryer and half bath. The living area includes a flat screen TV, DVD, stereo, ceiling fan, a queen pullout sofa, loveseat and chair, with 3 full glass French doors providing water views from everywhere. The dining area overlooks the water — with 3 large windows and another French doors, it’s like dining al fresco but in the AC! The wraparound deck includes a bar-height dining set, wicker chairs and a quality propane BBQ grill.

The 2nd floor offers a sumptuous Master bedroom suite with king bed and 3 French doors to bring the water views inside. It also includes a private bath with tiled shower and frameless glass doors. The similar hall bath is just steps from the other two bedrooms. The Queen guest bedroom has water views shaded by palm trees from its two large windows. The center 3rd bedroom includes a new (2023) Pyramid bunk (full mattress down, twin mattress up); it has a near complete glass wall of windows overlooking the ocean as well as access to the second floor deck via another set of French doors. The 2nd floor wraparound deck has a comfortable cushioned seating group as well as another table and chairs.

We have made continuous upgrades each year, including: 2013 – electric fireplace (with heater) in living room; 2014 – new area rugs, new dishwasher; 2015 – new TimberTech boards on 1st floor deck, dining chairs on 1st floor deck; 2016 – entire exterior painted, most of interior painted, new 2nd floor deck seating group; 2017– new carpet on stairs and in Master bedroom, new area rugs; 2018 – new queen sofabed couch and loveseat in living room, new washer/dryer; 2019—new additional outdoor café table and chairs, new BBQ grill. 2020 – 2 new Polywood bar tables and 6 chairs. 2021 – new Weber BBQ grill, new pillows, sheets and towels. 2022 - New Central AC and heating system, new microwave, Keurig coffee maker in addition to Mr. Coffee.

Inside Scoop

Get the big ones - pick your own bait shrimp at Isla Marina (formerly Smugglers) 1/4 mile away just north of the Snake Creek Bridge.
Be careful kayaking near any bridges as the tide can run very strong.
Fish are somewhat picky in the boat lagoon since everyone fishes for them (be patient), but are much more accommodating once you get out on the flats or along the mangrove shorelines in a boat or kayak. When you rent I send detailed fishing info!
Snake Creek drawbridge opens on the hour -- traffic backs up so avoid that time!
It can be hard to make a left hand turn out of Anglers in busy times so either be patient and safe, go right and turn around once over the bridge, or go at a less busy time of the day or the week.
If you plan to book a charter, book ahead - the good captains book early. If you wait until you get here, there may be no availability at all. When you book, I send you some captains I have used and lots of local fishing info.

Year Purchased: 2008

About the owner: I have lived at the beach on Long Beach Island in southern NJ since 1988 and am a boater and fisherman. Water and water views have always been important to me. I have also been a real estate broker here, doing both sales and rentals, and have owned several vacation home properties here, as well as in the Outer Banks of NC, so I have learned what vacationers are looking for.

We are the original owners of 140 Anglers Reef, purchasing it brand new in 2008 after spending a month looking throughout the Keys for the right area and home. We wanted to be as far south as we could within the US, but not so far south in the Keys that the trip from the airport would be onerous. And we wanted an area with good restaurants and shopping, good fishing, and easy access to both Atlantic and the Gulf side - many areas (like Key Largo) have very limited Gulf-access points. We also fell in love with the style of the community and the blue/green hues of the Islamorada Flats right out front.

Why this property? First, we wanted one of the few homes that are directly overlooking the ocean -- we wanted unobstructed ocean views that we can enjoy from our decks and throughout the home. We chose to be on the south side of the community as the views are more open than the homes on the north side. The north side also gets the overflow of music at night from Hog Heaven on most weekends. We also did not want to be directly on the pool, which can get noisy (we avoid the noise, but are only steps away from the pool).

Most other homes in Anglers are 2 bedrooms and some of those do not have both a living and dining area. We wanted 3 bedrooms for our family's flexibility and also for rental guests. We also wanted the large wraparound decks on both floors for outside living -- most other homes in Anglers have small balcony type decks that can only seat 2-3 people tightly.

Guestbook comments from the host:

Hi Steve, We loved our stay at your home in Anglers Reef! Anglers Reef unit 140 was a perfect location for our fishing/boating trip to the Florida Keys. We enjoyed the kayaks, paddle boards, bikes, boat dock and pool complex. The house was furnished with everything we needed, had comfy beds and the location right on the water was ideal. We would definitely like to visit again.

Jul 2021

Location, location, location! This house is perfect for gazing out to the sparkling ocean waters, or watching the successful fisherman fileting their catch from the dock. This corner house has lots of fabulous French doors with delightful breezes and an upper and lower balcony. ( And, of course, there's great AC and ceiling fans in the bedrooms.) There's lots of tables on each balcony for outdoor dining. The table inside seats 6 easily and the kitchen counter seating is right next to the table. The kitchen is amazingly well set up, the kayak option for renters is wonderful (sign the paperwork!) and having two bikes with helmets is a nice addition. The pool is fabulous - always heated comfortably, and the Adirondack style chairs on the beach are great (no umbrellas). Steve is very responsive to messages. We've been back and will be back!

Feb 2021

Hi Steve,

Thank you for an incredible stay! The house was perfect for our family and your location is awesome.  Hope we get back down to Islamorada soon! The guest book is a great idea - we’ve stayed at several vacation rentals and yours is the first one I’ve seen.

This property is going to be really hard to beat! This unit is closest to the water and just a few steps away from fishing right off the dock, which we did almost everyday. The community paddleboards and kayaks are great for exploring the shallow waters right off the beach. Kitchen is well-stocked, though we didn’t do much cooking this week. The appliances are in great condition, a nice big Viking fridge and a washer/dryer with a surprisingly large capacity for a stacked unit! Plenty of linens and towels for everyone. Publix is SO conveniently close that we made numerous stops throughout the week. Also very close to Theater of the Sea, multiple restaurants, and marinas for boat excursions. The property is clean, well kept, and hopefully we will be able to return soon! Thank you again for a fantastic week at your place!

The house was wonderful and perfect for our family. The owner was very communicative and helpful. The view - spectacular!

Jan 2021

Thank you for allowing my family to enjoy your wonderful home in Islamorada again, we had an absolute blast!

Thanks again and we look forward to staying there again soon.

Sep 2020

Hi Steve, my wife and I loved staying at your home again!  I would also like to reserve your house again for next summer.  Your home is very nice and we absolutely liked staying there and spent lots of time enjoying the views from the porch.  If there was a single thing I would like to see changed, it would be to replace the tired old grill (they don’t last long in south Florida’s salt water environment).

[Owner reply: Yes the "stainless" grills aren't really, and this one is not even 3 years old - but 3 years is about it when they are outside 24/7 in the salt air. No worries - I will be replacing it with a new one when I am there this Fall.] DONE!

Jun 2020

Thanks, Steve. We thoroughly enjoyed 140 and can’t wait to come back next Feb...Thanks for your efficient and prompt communication- greatly appreciated.

What a wealth of fishing info!!  Thanks for including the pics in your portfolio!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:

Do you only rent Saturday to Saturday?

A:

Because we are historically fully booked from Christmas thru late August, we do limit check in and out to Saturdays during this time. We do offer flexibility from September into December depending on other bookings and lead time - just check with us.

Q:

Is a boat slip included?

A:

We make our boat slip optional because about half of our guests do not bring or rent a boat, so they should not have to pay for an unused boat slip. If a guest wants the slip, the cost is $280/wk including water and electric. Since there are 52 homes and only 36 slips, if one of our guests is not interested in the slip we rent it to other owners for themselves or for their guests.

Q:

How large a boat can be accommodated?

A:

The Anglers Property Owners Association and our state permit limits the length of vessels to 31 feet including engines. Boat height is limited to 10.5 feet about the water line (ie, no flybridge vessels), and maximum draft ta 3.5 feet.

Q:

What is the minimum rental period?

A:

Both Anglers and Islamorada require a minimum stay of 7 nights.

Q:

How far ahead do people usually book?

A:

For prime months, we get many booking requests 6 months to a year ahead. In that prime time, open weeks are rarely available within 30-60 days of checkin.

Q:

Why are there no reviews here?

A:

We are brand new to this site ! Please see our many reviews on our direct rental site noted in the LInks section and also on VRBO Property #186650
