Vacationing Tips and Tricks for Key Largo
Miami International Airport and the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport have one-hour and two-hour driving times to Key Largo. Check the prices at both locations to be sure you’re receiving the best value.
Between December and March is a temperate and pleasant time to visit Key Largo. Calm weather and moderate temperatures make every day pleasant enough for the ocean and other outdoor recreation.
Temperatures stay in the 70s and 80s in April and May, and it is a relatively quiet season to come. From June to November, expect high summer temperatures in the 90s, but fewer visitors. It’s also hurricane season.
What to Do While Staying in Key Largo
Snorkeling, swimming, scuba diving, sport fishing, eco-tours, beaches, and dolphin therapy programs are just a few of the sea-related activities available to visitors in Key Largo. When staying at one of the stunning Key Largo vacation rentals, getting out and about is easy.
The island also has a number of on-shore attractions, such as nature paths and a wild bird rehabilitation facility. The 1947 film Key Largo, starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, brought the Keys international recognition. The Caribbean Club, a local pub, served as the setting for several of the film’s scenes.
To the west, Key Largo is bordered by Everglades National Park, a top attraction for kayakers, birder watchers, and other environmental tourists. The only living coral barrier reef in the mainland United States is to the east, contributing to Key Largo having earned the title of Diving Capital of the World.
The Spiegel Grove shipwreck, a 510-foot former US Navy ship purposefully sunk in 2002, sits six miles off the coast in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. Are you traveling with an avid angler? Key Largo is also known for its sport fishing.

The jaw-dropping Christ of the Deep monument is housed within the marine sanctuary and makes for a spectacular sight when submerged under the water. It was one of three in the globe when it was erected in its current location in 1965, and hundreds of divers have visited since then.
