Favorite Places To Eat
Start your day at the colorful Berry Fresh Café, a local favorite. Their made-from-scratch menu creatively incorporates locally sourced ingredients for authentic farm-to-table freshness. Try the fabulous fresh blueberry fritters, dusted with cinnamon sugar and served with strawberry yogurt for dipping. Yum! There are gluten-free and vegan entrees as well.
West End Grill is a family-owned restaurant offering both indoor and outdoor fine dining with a casual atmosphere. Open for lunch and dinner, West End Grill also has a Sunday Brunch. Their risotto is tops! For dessert try crème brulé, key lime pie or a funnel cake sundae, accompanied by a cup of cappuccino, latte or expresso. Local bands perform on the patio Tuesday through Saturday.
Have a taste for authentic Mexican food? Visit locally-owned Pueblo Viejo for good food, generous portions and the best margaritas. Yearning for pad thai or sushi? There’s two superb restaurants that offer well-flavored dishes and fast service: the contemporary Spice Thai and Sushi Restaurant and the elegant Roy’s Sushi and Thai Grill, where you can be seated on couches and formal dining room-style chairs.
Hop Life Brewing Company is one of St. Lucie West’s newest additions. Located near First Data Field, Hop Life has a Taproom offering Artisan Crafted beers not found in other breweries. There’s live music on Friday and Saturday nights and brunch every Sunday.
For something out of the ordinary, the Treasure Coast Model Railroad Club, located on Becker Road off of I-95 (about 11 miles away), opens the doors to their miniature world of 1,900 square feet of track running through pint-sized towns populated by children, adults and animals in a variety of landscapes. Check out the cloud that produces lightning and thunder whenever a train approaches. Visit Tuesdays from 7:00 to 9:00 pm or Saturdays 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Interested in the Treasure Coast’s unique environment? Explore “the real Florida” at Oxbow Eco-Center. Oxbow, located 7.5 miles away, is a 225-acre preserve consisting of forest, scrub, pine flatwoods, primordial swamps and wetlands on the North Fork of the St. Lucie River. Visit the “green building” Discovery Center to learn about habitats and their inhabitants and the rich biodiversity of the Indian River Lagoon. Then choose a trail to view nature first-hand.
Want to see what some of the first pioneers found when travelling through? Savannas Preserve State Park is a great choice for hiking and birding. Savannas Preserve State Park is the largest remnant of freshwater marshes that once extended along Florida’s southeast coast. Here you can find sandhill cranes, Florida scrub jays, gopher tortoises and American alligators. The Savannas Education Center has exhibits, self-guided tour booklets, a gift shop and information on other Florida State Parks.
Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens, though formal, features 10 gardens, including a palm garden, hibiscus garden, orchid room and even a secret garden. The Botanical Gardens are situated on the North Fork of the St. Lucie River in a section once known as Moonraker Bay, named for the James Bond movie boat chase filmed nearby on the river in 1979.
Cruise the North Fork of the St. Lucie River on the River Lilly, the longest running eco-tour boat on the river. What’s just around the bend?
