About the Property
Moon Bay on the ocean in the fabulous Florida Keys - Thank you for your interest in my Key Largo vacation home. If you love the ocean, I can guarantee you will not be disappointed spending a vacation anywhere in the Florida Keys.
The condo you'll be enjoying is located in a complex called Moon Bay, which is more like a resort than a condominium. There is a tennis court, basket ball, a private boat slip, and dock for fishing and saltwater swimming, to mention just a few of the amenities. The unit is on the fourth floor of an elevator building, making for spectacular views from the living room, master bedroom, and screened-in porch.
Moon Bay has two pools, with plenty of deck for soaking up the sun. There is a sundeck just feet from the water..Romantic restaurants, right on the water, are within walking distance. There is also a bike and jogging path just outside the gate.
The recreation room has big screen TV, ping pong, and tables for playing cards and games. During season owners and guests have a pot luck every Thursday. Reserve the clubhouse kitchen for family gatherings.
Bring a boat and use the deeded Class One boat slip rated to 30 feet. Don't have a boat we can help you rent one.
The condo is only a short drive from Everglades National Park, and just over a mile away is John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. As the home of America's only living reef, Pennekamp is world-famous as an outstanding spot for scuba diving and snorkeling. Saltwater fishing in the Keys attract people from all over the world.
The unit has two bedrooms and a bath and a half. The entire unit is air-conditioned. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need,to prepare a Thanksgiving feast.. There are three televisions (all with cable), a stereo, and a DVR with a video library There is a, free washer and dryer in the unit. Enjoy the outdoor grills, right on the waterfront to cook your catch.
My rates for four people range from $995.00 during the low season to $1245.00 during mid season. Discounted rates for multiple weeks. months. Weeks that contains a major holiday are higher. There is a $300.00 refundable security deposit on first rentals. Monthly rates start at $2,495.00. Forget those rates. If you can make a reservation less than 30 days prior to arrival I will seriously discount. We offer Military and Veteran discounts.
While my rate is no more than the going rate, this unit is one of the nicest you'll find, and definitely the best value. It is a first-class condo.
Low season rate is $995.00. AAA. First Responder, Military and Veteran discount.
Moon Bay is such a special place -- I'm sure you'll love it. As always, I'm happy to provide any information you may need. Let me know if you have any questions or would like to see pictures of the unit and surrounding views.
We love children and have toys and the things they need to have a great Keys experience. For the youngest people we supply a stroller, high chair, and play pen/crib.
Please see my web site for almost 100 pictures.
Best wishes for a great Moon Bay vacation.

Get away from the cold and snow even if it only for a week. If I am booked the week you need I have a Rental Schedule and I will suggest the nicest unit available that meets your needs.
Why Kids Love It
Thing for children of all ages. Stroller, Play/pen crib, high chair and toys for the little people.
All sorts of swim floats for the older kids. Fishing equipment for all ages.
Tennis racquets. Table tennis paddles and balls.
Activities children enjoy in the fabulous Florida Keys
Tell me how old your children are and I can be more specific.
You may want to take your children to the Theater of the Sea. Just a short drive south of Moon Bay. Looks like a Tourist Trap. It isn't. Don't go if anyone is afraid of cats. Especially good for children under 13.
Theater Of The Sea - Islamorada, Florida Keys
Not sure how experienced your children are at snorkeling. I get my grandkids started in the pool and then move to the outside of the main pier. The north end of the main pier has the best fish. If you are lucky you may see a few very small barracudas. Fear not. Even the biggest will not harm you. You will not see any big ones at Moon Bay. You need to go to the reef for that.
I hate jet skis, but to my grandkids they are the high point of the trip. You can rent one a few hundred yards south of Moon Bay. They also have parasail rides that they love. Neither is cheap.
You can also rent kayaks just south of Moon Bay.... If you think you may do that, ask me to send you the sheet on "boats". I can direct you to some hidden trails.
The alligator farm is a must. They will especially enjoy the air boat ride that is included.
The alligator farm is very close to Everglades National Park. We get into Everglades National Park free but haven't been there with grandkids since we discovered the Alligator Farm. You may feel differently, but your kids will prefer the Alligator Farm.
Take them fishing from the Moon Bay pier. You should find all the equipment they need in the second bedroom closet. You can make up bait from "stuff" in the refrigerator. I find that my younger grandkids have lost interest in fishing by the time I go to the bait shop for "real" bait. Please do not store bait in the refrigerator or freezer.
Try their hand at tennis on the Moon Bay courts. There are tennis racquets in the same closet. There may or may not be tennis balls depending on what the previous guests did with them. You can buy balls at K-Mart.
Spend a full day at Ann's Beach. Around MM 72 ocean side. Take the cooler from the Moon Bay closet and pack a lunch. This is one of the better beaches in the Keys.
You may consider driving to Miami Beach and spend the day on their world class beach. Bring a picnic lunch if you want to save $. There is a cooler in the closet and ice packs in the freezer. There is metered beach parking but you need to look for it.
Just about everyone drives to Key West for a day. Your kids will enjoy the Conch Train ride and Mallory Pier for the sunset celebration, but little else.
Your kids will want to spend a lot of time in the heated pool. There is also a child's pool.
There is a basketball hoop. Bring your own ball. There is an air compressor in the second bedroom. Bring a inflating needle, just in case.
Swim in the ocean from the outside of the Moon Bay pier. You will find floats, and toys, in the second bedroom closet. There is also a 12 volt air compressor there to fill up the floats
There is a ping pong table in the recreation building. You will find paddles, balls, and a net in the second bedroom closet.
Spend a day at Pennekamp Park. You can bring the cooler with a picnic lunch or buy lunch at the concession stand. They have a snorkel trail salted with wreckage from the Spanish Fleet that sunk in the park in 1733.
You can also take a snorkel trip from Pennekamp to the reef. Your children should be very comfortable in the water to venture out to the reef. There is one reef that I start my grandkids snorkeling on at about age five after they have mastered it in the pool. It is Grecian Rocks. Very shallow and usually calm water. Normally hard to find a snorkel boat to take you there but if are arriving in low season, the boat captains will be desperate for business. Ask around and tell them that if they are not going to Grecian Rocks, you will find another boat. If you are an experienced seaman you can rent a boat and take your family there. The price is about the same as paying for four spots on the snorkel boat. If you have a choice, take the snorkel boat.
Rent a boat on a calm day and take a trip to ocean side through Adams Cut. This is a short way to the ocean, Pennekamp Underwater Park, and Europe. I do not suggest going to the reef in a small boat, especially with a family, unless you are an experienced seaman.
If your children are older and interested in fishing there is a party boat that leaves from Holiday Isle. Half day trips are not expensive. Ask me for details and a coupon.
You will find a kite and hopefully string in the second bedroom closet. Fly a kit from the Moon Bay pier on a day when there is an off shore breeze.
You will find a lot more to do than you can do in a month. We have been spending time in the Keys for over thirty years and there are still things we haven't done.
If your children can do a fifteen mile bike trip, or take the tram, and they want to get within touching distance of wild alligators this is the place.
Everglades National Park: Biking the Shark Valley Tram Road
Don't tell them unless you have a rain day, but there are kid's videos in the video library.

Go north from Moon Bay until you come to the last chance to turn right before the road splits to Card Sound Bridge. There is a car on the ocean side with a buzzard on top of it. Turn right and take it for a few blocks until the road ends. Great hamburger. Baked and breaded onion is wonderful. One is enough for the table.
More like a Bar and Grill. Not one of my favorites, but so popular with my guests I have to mention it. Way too noisy. Prices are reasonable for the Keys. Phone: Mile Marker 101.7 Oceanside
MOON BAY.. Buy a box of fancy crackers and your favorite cheese. Add a bottle of wine and a candle. Sit on the screened in porch and watch the sun go down. Play one of the Island Music tapes you will find in the stereo cabinet. If you want to get closer to the water try the observation deck above the Club House or select one of the benches on the dock. A great place to be with someone special. Romantic. Not expensive.

Guestbook comments from the owner:
Just wanted to let you know that we are very impressed with your condo. We got in late last night and were first impressed condo interior but when we woke up this morning to the wonderful views of the gulf, we knew that was the best quality of this condo! You have been a pleasure to work with and I have a feeling we will be returning to your place in the future.
The place was lovely….everything was as you said – clean, worked, organized, and beautiful….I was extremely pleased.
The entire complex was immaculately kept and very nice.
I particularly enjoyed the bar-b-que area….such lovely views of the beautiful sunsets while I charred a steak to perfection.
Everything in the unit was above expectation, and I especially appreciate all of the tips you provided about the surrounding area.
I took off one day (from all that scuba-diving…which was just fantastic) to have a leisurely drive to Key West where I spent a night enjoying a few of the local attractions down there (e.g. Ft. Jefferson and Duval Street).
I left the place as I found it (clean and tidy): additionally I placed the key at the designated place, and mailed the gate pass from the lobby area near the elevator. Additionally, I washed and folded the bed linens and started a load of towels. Unfortunately, I accidently broke one of the small cocktail glasses while washing up one night; sorry – if I had more time I would have attempted to find a replacement, but ran out of time; please deduct a commensurate amount from my deposit.
Overall, you provided for every consideration in making my stay hassle free and I really appreciate it.
I hope to return in the on-coming years, but will attempt a cooler month – being from the Seattle area with the cooler weather, makes those Florida summer days seem a little harsh (temperature wise).
Thanks once again,
Just a quick note to let you know we made it back to Iowa yesterday and you should be getting the gate key in the mail shortly as we mailed it from the Moon Bay mail per your instructions.
Thanks so much for the use of your place, we really enjoyed it!
If we decide to vacation in Key Largo in the future...we will be certain to contact you. I can't tell you just how much we enjoyed our stay.....my motto is to vacation in a place as nice or nicer than our home...your condo certainly fit the criteria. You are my kind of owner...very attentive and prompt with information and communication, again thank you!
Dear Captain Don,
We had a fabulous vacation! Moon Bay was the perfect place for our vacation. Your communication was the best! Hope we can visit again.
We had a fantastic time Don.
The condo was beautiful and the only thing Camille and I need is clean...and your home was spotless.
We will be staying with you again .
Good Evening: yes we made down and just wanted to let you know that your condo is so lovely and is by far one of the best we have stayed in.
