About this rental
Ann's cottage is a cozy, original 1950’s, one story beach cottage in the Holmes Beach section of Anna Maria Island. It is a short walk- six houses to the beautiful sugar white sands and sparkling blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The homes sits in a quiet neighborhood, yet is only one street away from a shopping center plaza with restaurants, bars, and shops.
The backyard of this home is a lush paradise with a private, large outdoor back lanai. After a day at the beach, enjoy relaxing with a good book in the hammock made for two or soaking up the sun in the lounge chairs. Spend your evenings barbecuing and dining outdoors with family and friends. The gazebo is surely a favorite spot in the evenings to watch your favorite show or just enjoy the quiet with loved ones around the fire pit table.
This comfy home has been newly renovated and has all of the amenities one could possibly want. The master has a king size bed and a 65 inch flat panel smart TV. The guest bedroom has two double beds and a large flatscreen smart TV. There is a blow up mattress and the sofa is a large sectional which can provide extra sleeping space if needed.
The kitchen is well appointed with new appliances and quartz countertops. You will find anything you need to prepare your meals. Dining in is always a favorite. We leave spices, oils and paper products for our guests. And of course coffee, until you have a chance to get to the supermarket, which is less than a mile away.
There is a shed with four adult bikes, a child's bike, beach toys, floaties, masks, kites, chairs etc... for your enjoyment and use during your stay. There is also a ping pong table, corn hole set and a jenga set.
This house has a large yard where children can play while parents can monitor comfortably from the gazebo. There are no stairs to climb which is attractive to many tenants.
The location is ideal. It is a short walk to everything: the beach, shopping, restaurants and bars.
Why Kids Love It
There are games, puzzles and a large yard for when tenants are in the home. There are all kinds of beach toys for when they are at the beach. There is a ice cream shop right around the corner. The street is quiet and safe as there is no parking allowed on the street, so you will only have other residents/ renters in your neighborhood.
Holmes Beach is in the middle of Anna Maria Island, which is the less congested, more private part of the beach and island. Yet, you are close to shopping during the day and varied restaurants and bars in the evening. There are many things to do on the island such as a guided boat tour to fish or see wild dolphins, browse the Coquina Beach outdoor market, shop on Historic Bridge Street, or enjoy live music and cocktails on the North Pier. Some interesting things to see close by but off the island, are Moat Marine, Selby Gardens, Hike the Robinson and/or Neal Preserves, or visit the historic Ca'd'zan home where John Ringling and his wife lived and where Great Expectations was filmed.
Attractions Within Walking Distance
Right around the corner are specialty shops:
The Sand Dollar has interesting beach decor items for the home. They also have beach attire at a reasonable price.
Favorite Places To Eat
One of our favorite places to eat is “Bridge Street Tender.”Get a table right on the bay under the large oaks and watch the local fishermen at work. Be sure to order the basa bites or grouper fingers! “ Peaches” is a great place for breakfast or brunch.
One street over from the house is:
-“ Decoy Ducks” and “Feckled Fin”, both lively bars for local hangouts of all ages with music and dancing.
- "The Doctors Office” is a more upscale, small quiet place for unique cocktails. The have the best medicine.
- “The Creamery”. You will find some of the best ice cream on the island.
- “Vinnys”, an authentic Italian shop, which also makes fresh deli sandwiches and Italian pastries. Vinnys is the perfect place to pick up a delicious Italian meal for two (prepackaged for quick pickup), when you want to dine in, but don't want to cook. Vinny’s is right around the corner walking distance.
Walk to the end of the north pier off Pine Street around sunset time. Enjoy a burger or fish tacos and wine while you listen to live music as the sun sets.
Enjoy breakfast at the Rod and Reel pier. A very unique experience. There are only a few tables, so go early.

About the owner: This home has been in the family since it was built in 1953. It is in the historic Gutiérrez subdivision where many members of our family still reside today. Gavino Gutiérrez was one of the original founders of Ybor City in Tampa. He was the engineer who laid out the streets of Ybor city in the 1880’s. He also built one of the original homes on Anna María island called “The Shack”, which was located where the main public beach is today. The wood used to build the shack was rescued when the old court house in Tampa was torn down and rebuilt. Gavino Gutiérrez brought the wood by sailboat and had the shack built. This homestead was later taken by eminent domain to establish a public beach. A photo of the original shack is framed in Ann’s House.
Why this property? It feels like a home rather than a rental property. No stairs, quiet neighborhood, spacious yard. There is a private walkway to the beach at the end of the street.
Guestbook comments from the host:
Great place to stay in AMI! This house had everything we needed upon arrival. The walk to the beach is short and very picturesque.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. My husband and I have visited Anna Maria Island about five times previously; this year’s trip was our favorite. This duplex one-story house is on a quiet street in a nice area of the island. The back yard is great, with fire-table seating (sofa, tables, comfy chairs) under a wooden gazebo, two soft chairs with a small table between them, and an outdoor dining table for four. There’s a gas grill, which we used to grill fresh fish. Bicycles, beach equipment, and a beach cart were available (along with plenty of beach towels). The walk to the beach is short; there is easy access to the water at 50th street or, a tiny bit closer, at 52nd street. We walked down to the water to watch the sunset almost every night. The open living room/dining room (table and chairs for 6) is expansive and comfortable. There’s a big screen TV, a very large sofa, and three other chairs. The extra room along the back of the house is wide and has glass windows and a window AC unit, which we never needed. The extra room is sealed apart from the rest of the house; we called it the screen porch because it seems like it previously was a screened porch. We ate dinner in the screen porch with the windows open almost every night. This was my favorite part of the house. In addition to the dining table, the screen porch has another sofa, two more easy chairs, a wooden rocking chair, a dry bar with two barstools, and another large TV. The master bedroom has a comfortable king and the second bedroom has two double beds. Nice white linens and nice pillows. Both bedrooms have TVs. The main bathroom is lovely, and the extra bathroom and shower in the laundry room is convenient. Nice, new appliances everywhere. The kitchen was well equipped; we were pleased to find cheese knives and a cork cutter, for example. We cooked or ate in often (pandemic), so we really appreciated the supply of pots, pans, utensils, etc. The air popcorn popper was a fun addition, and we made popcorn several times. As opposed to other homes we have rented, when we arrived at the house, there was toilet paper in the bathrooms and basics, including salt, pepper, olive oil, and even some seasonings in the kitchen cupboard. (The owners said it was fine to leave leftover sealed non-perishable food in the cupboard, which is nice.) The large front foyer of the house has an antique desk, which I opened up and used; Wi-Fi and Ethernet connections were good. The central air conditioning works well, plus there are ceiling fans in every room. There is a storage room with a vacuum cleaner, tools, an ironing board, and other supplies one might need. There were sufficient cleaning supplies. I saw an air mattress and air mattress sheets, but seriously, if there were an extra person with you, either the living room couch or the screen porch couch would probably be a comfortable place to sleep. The décor is beachy and adorable. Every throw pillow and piece of art fits into a beach theme, and the color schemes are charming. The home was recently updated and redecorated, and everything looks fresh. There were paperback books and a few games and puzzles on hand for rainy days or quiet nights. If you stay here, you are renting the much-larger east side of this duplex house. A quiet but friendly year-round resident whom you will rarely see lives in the small west side residence. Two of our favorite things to do in the immediate area around the house were walking less than a mile south to the Anna Maria Island Beach Café to listen to the 4:30 to 7:30 Dixieland jazz band “The Sea Notes” (currently on Wednesday nights) and walking less than a mile north to The Ugly Grouper restaurant for fresh grouper dishes, live music, and plenty of outdoor seating.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are there amenities for toddlers: high chair, crib etc...
There is a high chair seat in the lanai closet. A crib can be rented on the island.
What are the rules in a residential neighborhood? Noise level has to be down after 10:30
“Please note: You are vacationing in a residential area. Please be a good neighbor by keeping the noise to a respectful level during the day and night. Excessive and unreasonable noise can deprive the neighbors of the peaceful enjoyment of their property. Thank you.”
This cottage is amazing, has everything you need (even for kids). The location is great - the beach is 5 min walking, has nice restarants near by. We'd like to visit again.

Lovely Home and Location
I was very pleased with our rental. I had an accident going down a step from the laundry room and have 3 cracked ribs as a result of the fall. The light into the room was across the room from where the step is located. If you stay there, be careful. I left a note informing the owner of the danger but there was no response in regard to the incident. I spent 4 hours in an emergency clinic waiting to be seen and to get the needed x-ray's. I am still in terrible pain and according to my Dr. I will be for at least another month.

Karen, Your check out date was Saturday. I found your note regarding your fall on Sunday, when I went to clean. I sent you an email the very next day ( Monday), telling you how sorry I was to hear that you fell. You responded to my email. So, it is not true that I did not respond. We get many elderly renters, like yourself, because we are a one story home. In 19 years, no one has ever fallen. However, since your incident we’ve ordered a “watch your step” floor sticker. Again, Im very sorry
Home Away from home
Hi, we really enjoyed our stay at Anne’s House on AMI. This house is very well located, steps to the beach and restaurants. You will find everything you need in this rental and the owners have really taken care of updating their house. The place was very clean and comfortable for our family. We enjoyed the outside patio and gas fire pit. We will definitely visit again. Thanks Gail.

So glad your family enjoyed their stay. Thanks for taking such good care of the house. We already have your 2023 dates reserved. Until then be safe and take care! Regards, Gail
Love this place
We have stayed at Ann’s Place several times and have always enjoyed the house. Close walk to the beach and local shopping. The best little breakfast cafe just one block over. We especially love the back Llani/ Florida room, we have enjoyed many nights of story telling and reminiscing of beach times on the island. Ann’s Place is clean, comfortable and the owners have always been easy to communicate to. We will certainly come again.
